Perhaps it is by Rick Riordan, but I cannot say for sure. It is of around 2015-2018 and for kids, something easy that a 5th grader could understand.
pretty sure its a middle grade book. And I am not sure but I guess the author was someone called Vegas? The title has the word Pyramid in it.(Sry forgot to mention that before)
Bones of the Sun God by Peter Vegas? (The series is Pyramid Hunters which is big on the cover!) There are a few books in the series.

Vague scene: Boy fell into a ditch kind of thing and accomplice of villain was after him. Antagonist has a knife here and fights the boy. In the end, boy somehow escapes though he's badly hurt.
