I only read the first chapter of this book which consisted of a large army standing on a field. One of the soldiers was narrating the happenings of a possible battle to come internally. Another army was approaching from a ridgeline, possibly on horses. He was saying how fierce and skilled they were in combat. At the last moment the army took an abrupt turn and rode away. that's basically it.

I believe this was a very well know popular book which is quite old, I read it around 2012. Seemed somewhat similar in theme to LOTR or such.

They are deliberately written in a LOTR style, but there are so many volumes to this series that I wouldn’t know which one your particular memory might come from.

Hey, thanks! I'm not sure it was written in the style of LOTR as such, I was more referring to the environment or feel of the world.
I'm almost certain it was the first book of the series, if there even was a series. After a quick search this is not it though. thanks for the idea.
