message 143: by Steve Mepham (last edited Oct 19, 2023 06:50AM) (new)

Steve Mepham | 1 comments For me so far in fiction it's "The Secret Hours" by Mick Herron and for non-fiction David Mitchell's "Unruly - A History of England's Kings and Queens".

The first is a slow-burn spy thriller in Herron's usual style and the second one of the funniest and most irreverent potted-history books I've read, certainly since "1066 And All That"

The writing was more than I thought it would be and the premise was not something I've read before, and the humor was just perfect. Personally, adored this book.
