Runners-up: Kingdom of Sweets by Erika Johansen, Dark Matter by Michelle Paver and The Dent in the Universe by EW Doc Parris.








The first is a slow-burn spy thriller in Herron's usual style and the second one of the funniest and most irreverent potted-history books I've read, certainly since "1066 And All That"

The writing was more than I thought it would be and the premise was not something I've read before, and the humor was just perfect. Personally, adored this book.
