Ticha Skuam (dskuam) | 43 comments Initially, I planned on reading manga for this prompt, but "Les Aerostats" by Amélie Nothomb came out on Storytel and I didn't think it twice. I'll read any Amélie Nothomb that crosses my path and I hardly ever read the blurb, I just read and always like it.

Anna (annafrommontana) | 416 comments I was recommended the book The Psychology of Money with no explanation (outside of the title) and a couple of months later found it and bought it. Since I had it but hadn't read the blurb I thought this was a great book for this prompt.

message 57: by Jobyrne (new)

Jobyrne | 1 comments I read "Quit Like A Woman" by Holly Whitaker. it was recommended to me by someone so I put it on my hold list from the library and when it came up I didn't remember where it came from so I read it. Really wasn't my thing, but had some interesting chapters.

Zoë (escapinginpaper) | 59 comments I ended up reading When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain by Nghi Vo. I'd read the first book in the series a few years back, so I had an idea of what the tone of the story would be like, but no clue what the actual plot would be when I went in... I just knew it'd be good! ;)

message 59: by Shonna (new)

Shonna Froebel | 255 comments I read A Meal in Winter by Hubert Mingarelli, which I received as part of a book subscription. So I didn't pick the book, it was picked for me.

Andrea | 95 comments I read The Library of the Dead by T. L. Huchu.
This was a library read. I've seen this book for a while, while poking around on Goodreads. If it has "library" in the title, that's usually an auto-add to my TBR.
I enjoyed it! It was a little slow to get going, but a fantastic look at a near-future Edinburgh, after some dystopian event has occurred.
I think this could also qualify for the hybrid genre. It's urban fantasy, with a mystery thrown in. Also a little dark academia? That may grow throughout the rest of the series.

message 82: by Jolien (new)

Jolien (joliendekoninck) | 71 comments Listened to The Adventure Of The Red Circle, audiobook told by Stephen Fry. Other than it being a Sherlock Holmes story, I had no idea what it was about. The book told the story of an Italian couple moving to New York to get married against their parents' wish. The husband gets unwillingly involved in a secret society, experiencing pressure to commit crimes and receiving threats. The couple flees to London, but the most dangerous member of the secret society follows them. The husband kills the man.
