*Suzy (ereaderuser)* (suzyereaderuser) I want to start Dying to Live by Kim Paffenroth. Does anyone know if this book is part of a series? And if it is can you tell me which books are part of the series and their order? Thanks so much!

Dying to Live is the first in the series. The second is called Dying to Live: Life Sentence and skips ahead a few years. It's my understanding that he is currently working/finishing a third book in the series.

*Suzy (ereaderuser)* (suzyereaderuser) Thanks so much Mike!

Just finished "Day by Day" on Monday. Not quite up there with World War Z, but a solid work. I'm going to try to pick up some more in the series.

I picked up Life Sentence at Borders, where it was in the bargain bin. Didn't realize it was a sequel. Probably going to start it as soon as I'm finished with GALAXY IN FLAMES (a Warhammer 40K novel).

sounds like another take like World War Z

Amber Carson (momtwo3) | 3 comments I just finished a great zombie book Rapture (Survivor Chronicles) by Mike Sutton
I highly recommend this one, and its only $1.00 on B&N for the nookbook and $2.99 for the kindle edition.
Check it out!

Armand Rosamilia (armandrosamilia) | 77 comments I'm reading The New Dead: A Zombie Anthology, which has some great stories in it so far... I have about 20 zombie-related eBooks on my Kindle right now I'm trying to read...

Ian Sandusky (idgs) | 59 comments The New Dead edited by Golden is indeed a great book. Surprisingly, the Max Brooks story included was one of my *least* favourite. Jonathan Maberry's story that eventually became Rot & Ruin was quite entertaining too.

As a general rule, I tend to stay away from multiple-author anthos (even big names) but this was a very good exception to that rule.

Armand Rosamilia (armandrosamilia) | 77 comments I love multi-author zombie anthologies because it always gives me another couple of zombie authors I've never read before, and allows me to check out their other zombie stories.

Richard (sarahsdad) | 9 comments Anthologies are an excellent vehicle for discovering new "to me" authors. I'm far more likely to buy a novel by an author that I have sampled in an anthology. Pay attention publishers and writers, because anthologies also show me which authors to avoid. Always put your best foot forward.

A good Zombie novel "Kill the Dead" by Kadrey.

Steve Chaput (stevec50) | 139 comments Just finished "Sex in the Time of Zombies" by William Todd Rose. Good collection of short stories that show how people initially react and later learn to rebuild society after the undead rise. Not zombie-porn as the title implies, but all the stories do have an element of sex. Not aimed at a Young Adult audience or any one a bit prudish.

Ramsey Campbell | 14 comments Dead Beat by Remy Porter was an excellent find. A new British horror novel, very much in the vein of early James Herbert ...oh, and it's got zombies too!

I enjoyed those books a lot. A really great opening in the first book.

I didn't realize how many YA and YA friendly titles were out there. I've really enjoyed the titles we have been reading so far.

Patient Zero is a Jonathan Maberry novel, not Joe Ledger - Joe Ledger is the MC - but yes, great book.

It's available at Amazon UK in paperback and kindle ...with forewords by Remy Porter AND David Moody!

Ramsey Campbell | 14 comments Probably the best zombie anthology ever has just been released - HOLIDAY OF THE DEAD. It has every zombie author under the sun, including John Russo, who co-wrote Night of the Living Dead with George Romero, and a whole host of new and established horror authors from the UK, Canada and America.

It's just come out on kindle, but will be in paperback in a few weeks. Here's the link;

Hollowland
Hollowland (The Hollows, #1) by Amanda Hocking

So far it is a really really great zombie book and you can get it on Amazon for $.99. It appears all the raving reviews about Amanda Hocking are true. Anyways, I have to get back to the story!

I'm reading Dead Beat right now, and although I haven't finished it, I'm really enjoying it. Pretty classic zombie story, set in the UK too which is a nice change! I don't think there's too much swearing either.

You could check out "DUST" by Joan Francis Turner. A lot of people have complained about the book because it reinvents the Zombie Genre, but I think it is pretty incredible. If you would like something a little different, I reccomend it.

message 84: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Reade Also, "Dust" is YA.

Simon (simbadoozle) | 2 comments Here are a few I can recommend -

Patient Zero (Joe Ledger, #1) by Jonathan Maberry Plague of the Dead (Morningstar Strain) by Z. A. Recht Flu by Wayne Simmons World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry

message 86: by Michael (new)

Very strange! I was just saying the other day I liked the front cover, bit underwhelming knowing it's a stock photo and not made for the book.

Robert DeCoteau | 9 comments . The New Days The First Son by Robert DeCoteau So here's my contribution. I am a bit biased, being the author and all. I really think it's worth your time though. Plus, if you like it you will have an entire series to follow in the future. I'm in the middle of writing a prequel and have at least 2 other sequels mapped out

message 91: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments The Dead by Mark Rodgers
Flesh Eaters by Joe McKinney (love all his books)
Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry (one of my favorites)
Any anthology edited or co-edited by John Skipp
World War Z (duh, it's a must)
Hungry for Your Love (anthology)
and a lot of the others mentioned by everyone else here.
I have one coming out in paperback (and on Kindle) with Titan Books Spring 2012 that I hope to add to this list!

Joy Killar (joykillar) | 23 comments Ian Woodhead's The Unwashed Dead was excellent! It had all the elements I love in a great zombie novel. He writes with great detail when describing his characters and the action scenes!

Ian is great. As an American I never really thought about what it would be like to deal with a zombie invasion in the UK. His bad neighborhood and his bad, badder, and worst characters was reminiscent of Train Spotting. I have to say Ian's work is inspirational to me and it's great that I can call him a friend and a fellow indie author.

Charleen (morriganalexandros) | 9 comments I am currently reading Patient Zero. It's ok. I guess I just like zombie books where the world has already gone to hell.

message 97: by Steve (new)

Steve Chaput (stevec50) | 139 comments I enjoyed Patient Zero quite a bit. I think the fact that it wasn't your typical zombie apocalypse that I liked. While I enjoy a good old fashioned Romero-type undead uprising, it's great to have a writer do something a bit different.

message 98: by Mike (new)

Mike (krassos) | 39 comments The only suggestion I can make is Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide. This is the only zombie book I've read, but it did inspire me to take back up my own writing. It is really good up until you reach the 'history' section. Then it lost my interest(too far over the top).

But then, you've probably read it.

message 99: by Steve (new)

Steve Chaput (stevec50) | 139 comments Mike, I recommend Brooks' WORLD WAR Z, a fictional "oral history" of the zombie wars from the first outbreaks in rural China to the gradual victories and rebuilding efforts. Of course, if you didn't care for the 'history' in the back of Survival Guide, WWZ might not be your cup of tea.

message 100: by Mike (new)

Mike (krassos) | 39 comments There's that. Also, as a writer, I tend to avoid reading zombie novels. I usually read outside of genre for fun.

Most of what I have been reading is non-fiction.
