Jerry (capvideo) | 131 comments The hardcover British edition of A History of Weaponry by Courtlandt Canby, from Leisure Arts Limited, is missing its cover. I’ve uploaded a scan of the cover from my copy; Amazon appears to have a couple of entries for this book, but none with cover images. Amazon does have an entry for potentially another edition of the book with the same cover under ASIN B000RYW88Q.

For verification, I’ve also uploaded a scan of the cover jacket that includes the spine, since that’s where the title and author are.

I’ve uploaded a scan of the page that lists the volumes in the series, which includes the name of the London publisher, Leisure Arts Limited.

I’ve included a scan of the final numbered page; it is 105, instead of the 104 listed in the entry, but that’s likely because it could be mistaken for non-content.

I’ve also uploaded a scan of what passes for an indicia page, though it has little useful information on it.

Do you know the year of issue?

Jerry (capvideo) | 131 comments No. I searched everywhere in the book for a copyright or publication date when I added it to my own personal database.

The only indication of when it was published is that the introduction quotes from President Kennedy’s inaugural address, “in which he called for a renewed ‘quest for peace, before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or accidental destruction.’”

That would put the date after January 20, 1961.

The latest date mentioned in the main text is a reference to the Atlas missile, “operational by 1959”, so I would guess the book overall was published soon after Kennedy’s inaugural; otherwise there would be more recent developments (Vietnam isn’t mentioned at all). But that doesn’t really address this particular edition.

Martin | 36184 comments That's fine, if no date is available we can leave that bit blank. Thanks for looking.
