End Strong, Start Strong Readathon - Dec 22, 2023-Jan 7, 2024
I beyond met my Goodreads goal of 300. Currently sitting at 368. Won't reach 400 but will hopefully reach 375!
Over the final days of 2023, I plan on finishing
. The rest of my reading is kind of at the whim of Hoopla selections and Libby holds coming in. I do have
and I'm hoping to also fit in
. Plus I have one category left for the Kindle Challenge so I need to read
. So yeah, easy peasy! lol.
I'm intentionally choosing
as my first book of 2024 because my review is due by publication day and I'd better have given birth by January 16. lol. I am having a baby boy in the next couple of weeks (due January 9) so it could be any day now! This is our first child and we are nervous excited.

So I started off just getting busy with other things, but over the summer and start of school, it turned into a full-on reading slump. At one point I dropped my goal from 60 down to 40, and a month ago even that seemed like a stretch goal. I will hit it, but barely. And hopefully I can manage to come back here and update when I do.
Good luck, everyone!

I am proud to say I have met and exceeded my reading goal for the year, about a couple of months ago. Usually, I start out with a little conservative goal and then if I am going to pass it, I might bump it up once or twice.
I am going conservative again for 2024. about 275. That is probably 80% audio book, 19% print book, and 1% ebook.
I like to dive into the ABC challenge at the beginning of the year.
One of my book related New Years Resolution for 2024 is to read more non fiction. I did it for 2023 and hope to do it again for 2024.

I started listening to
this morning. It's due back tomorrow just before noon! But I've got some chores to do, presents to wrap, if I have the energy so I will listen then, and I'm listening now, and if I don't have the energy, I usually play a couple mobile games while listening. I can't just sit back and listen, I have to multi-task! lol. I'm also 60% through
. I was listening to the audiobook but it returned last night so now I'll finish it with the e-book which I have from NetGalley. I'm also buddy reading
(pubs in Feb) in another group and I'm 40% through. I'm bored. 😬 Going to try to get the audio from NetGalley.

I don't have specific plans for my first books of the new year. I'll pick those when the time comes! In general, I like to get a strong start on my challenges and clear out my library stack.
Today's my last day of work before a two-week vacation, but the next few days are packed pretty full, so we'll see how I do!
These are my current reads that I hope to finish by the end of the year:

And these are some other books that I'll try to squeeze in:

Wow Elyse, that is just amazing! That is like the elite amount of books in a year! I’m very impressed with you and our other super readers.
I am quickly closing the gap on my goal of 100. I think I have 12 books left and while it will be a stretch between hosting holidays and working I think I can make it.
I’m looking at all of my goals for 2024 and will come back and finish this one. I’m doing some soul searching on how I want my life to improve in 2024. I’ve got some work to do.
My reading goal will probably stay at 100. I was thinking of dropping down to 75, but I feel like I really want to read 100 books a year even if I have to do a crazy year end push every year…haha
Thanks for being our supreme host over here and prodding such good prompts for group discussion.

I don't have any specific plans for this readathon other than read and enjoy the cozy feeling of knowing that I'm "reading with" a bunch of other people who just read for the love of it. I'm currently reading

I'll probably re-read the whole MB series when either the final book is almost released -or- when the Apple+ show is almost released, whichever comes first. But I am currently reading the new one!

I finished
and I'm reading/listening to
now. I'm 65% through
and now 71% through
. I can't believe there's only a week left of 2023!! So I also started reading
so finish my Kindle Challenge.

I had a positively insane start to my winter holidays. My last day of work was Friday, I went to my parents' house on Friday evening, and I've barely been home since. Saturday was the big family party. Now we're past all the events but my sister and her family are still here all week. I came home today to spend one night in my own bed recuperating from being in a house with 7 other people lol.
Anyway, I did manage to finish

When I go back to the craziness tomorrow, I'll bring a couple of shorter books with me, since I think they're easier to focus on when I'm only managing to steal brief moments of reading time.
Too much work to get up and go get my laptop or hop on my PC but I finished 3 books today:
. I'm also 70% through
and
.

It's been a slower week at work so I've been able to get home at a decent hour and do a lot of reading at night. I finished my 99th book although it was a race to the end I will make my goal of 100 again! I have a couple of Hoopla books I would like to finish so I can start January fresh. I also have a physical book on my nightstand that I want to finish.
I finished
last night. I've also finally started
and hope to finish it today. Then I can finish
and read
tomorrow. I'm also 75% through
between the audio and hardcover. Not as good as The Firekeeper's Daughter.

I did finish
in the nick of time last night (a 2-star read as my final book of the year eww!) and today I have started reading
. I already find the narrator annoying, breaking the fourth wall and talking to the reader. Blech. Happy New Year!

I finished the year at 102 books! It would have been 103, but one of my Hoopla books returned and I had maxed out my limit of 10. I had to wait until this morning to borrow it so I will finish it now.

Wow, Andrea, impressive!
Wow, Andrea, impressive!

I managed to finish

Now for a fresh start! Ish! Because I still have a few books on the go lol. I hate carrying books over to the new year, but in recent years I can't seem to get away from it. (When I finally finish Les Mis I am never putting myself through something like that ever again.)
To start the new year, I'm reading

I'm very happy making it (barely) over 100....lol Hoping to not have to cram it all in at the end of the year again...lol
Barely read anything yesterday. We decided to do whatever was left we needed to clean/organize before baby comes and for once I didn't feel like listening to an audiobook! But I did read 118 pages of
during the 3 reading sprints I actually did for Bout of Books (boutofbooks.blogspot.com). Today I've done the first sprint and started listening to
, recommended to me by one of the midwives! I already had it marked as 'Want To Read' but I also have *cough*17,000*cough* books on that shelf. Libby had it available so I scooped it up so we can talk about it at my 39-week appt on Thursday. It's a bit odd. lol. She said she attended a writing workshop with Ruth Ozeki in Vermont years ago. Very cool.

I might have just borrowed this from Libby too :)
Cough, choke, sputter 17000 and 39 weeks!!! That bun is cooked, and your bookshelves are sagging :)

It's not like I own 17,000 books! ...ony like 3,000...lol. The 17,000 is just any book I ever had any inkling of an interest in reading. It gets added to 'Want To Read' shelf.

I feel like that would stress me out. I would feel like even if you read 200 books a year it would take you 85 more years - dying!

Oh I definitely used to take that number and divide it by how many books I was averaging a year to see how long it would take to complete! I know I won't read every book on the shelf but I know where to go when I don't know what to read. lol.

How many books do you have left to meet your Goodreads goal? If you've already met it, when?
Have you modified your goal at all this year? Up or down?
What's a reading goal you have for 2024? Doesn't have to be total books you want to read, it can be # of physical books, classics, e-books, etc!
Do you consciously pick a book for your first read of the new year or is it whatever comes up next in your TBR or are you a mood reader and you have no idea?!
