End Strong, Start Strong Readathon will be from December 22, 2023 to January 7, 2024!

How many books do you have left to meet your Goodreads goal? If you've already met it, when?

Have you modified your goal at all this year? Up or down?

What's a reading goal you have for 2024? Doesn't have to be total books you want to read, it can be # of physical books, classics, e-books, etc!

Do you consciously pick a book for your first read of the new year or is it whatever comes up next in your TBR or are you a mood reader and you have no idea?!

I beyond met my Goodreads goal of 300. Currently sitting at 368. Won't reach 400 but will hopefully reach 375!

Over the final days of 2023, I plan on finishing The Christmas Chronicles by Nigel Slater . The rest of my reading is kind of at the whim of Hoopla selections and Libby holds coming in. I do have Pageboy by Elliot Page System Collapse (The Murderbot Diaries, #7) by Martha Wells The Duke's Secret Cinderella (Never a Wallflower, #3) by Eva Devon Warrior Girl Unearthed by Angeline Boulley The Guest by Emma Cline and I'm hoping to also fit in Together We Rot by Skyla Arndt What Moves the Dead (Sworn Soldier, #1) by T. Kingfisher . Plus I have one category left for the Kindle Challenge so I need to read The Mystery Guest (Molly the Maid, #2) by Nita Prose . So yeah, easy peasy! lol.

I'm intentionally choosing The Fury by Alex Michaelides as my first book of 2024 because my review is due by publication day and I'd better have given birth by January 16. lol. I am having a baby boy in the next couple of weeks (due January 9) so it could be any day now! This is our first child and we are nervous excited.

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments Congrats, Elyse! Are you just now announcing to the group, or is this one of those things I miss when I go MIA for half the year?

So I started off just getting busy with other things, but over the summer and start of school, it turned into a full-on reading slump. At one point I dropped my goal from 60 down to 40, and a month ago even that seemed like a stretch goal. I will hit it, but barely. And hopefully I can manage to come back here and update when I do.

Good luck, everyone!

Karin | 134 comments I met my Goodreads goal of 200 books near the end of October. I typically pick what books to read but my mood can cause me to change my mind.

I’m hoping to read the following during the read-a-thon:

A Little Christmas Spirit by Sheila Roberts
The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella
Bright Lights, Big Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews
The Fearless One by Lori Foster
Planning for Murder by Ellen Jacobson
Blood Stains by Sharon Sala

Good luck to everyone!
Merry Christmas!

Carol (carol07) | 4342 comments What!?? Congratulations Elyse! Am so happy for you. I will probably send you lots of recommendations for baby and kid's books... Watch out.

I am proud to say I have met and exceeded my reading goal for the year, about a couple of months ago. Usually, I start out with a little conservative goal and then if I am going to pass it, I might bump it up once or twice.

I am going conservative again for 2024. about 275. That is probably 80% audio book, 19% print book, and 1% ebook.

I like to dive into the ABC challenge at the beginning of the year.

One of my book related New Years Resolution for 2024 is to read more non fiction. I did it for 2023 and hope to do it again for 2024.

I started listening to Pageboy by Elliot Page this morning. It's due back tomorrow just before noon! But I've got some chores to do, presents to wrap, if I have the energy so I will listen then, and I'm listening now, and if I don't have the energy, I usually play a couple mobile games while listening. I can't just sit back and listen, I have to multi-task! lol. I'm also 60% through Throwback by Maurene Goo . I was listening to the audiobook but it returned last night so now I'll finish it with the e-book which I have from NetGalley. I'm also buddy reading The Women by Kristin Hannah (pubs in Feb) in another group and I'm 40% through. I'm bored. 😬 Going to try to get the audio from NetGalley.

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 675 comments I still have 11 books left to go to meet my (revised) goal of 125 for the year. So, over the next 10 days I'll be trying to finish most of the books I have in progress, plus a few short books.

I don't have specific plans for my first books of the new year. I'll pick those when the time comes! In general, I like to get a strong start on my challenges and clear out my library stack.

Today's my last day of work before a two-week vacation, but the next few days are packed pretty full, so we'll see how I do!

These are my current reads that I hope to finish by the end of the year:
The Ghost Next Door (Goosebumps, #10) by R.L. Stine Harrow the Ninth (The Locked Tomb, #2) by Tamsyn Muir Art Year by Year A Visual History, From Cave Paintings to Street Art (DK Children's Year by Year) by D.K. Publishing Under Heaven (Under Heaven, #1) by Guy Gavriel Kay Pierre & Jean by Guy de Maupassant

And these are some other books that I'll try to squeeze in:
The Dead Girlfriend (Point Horror #40) by R.L. Stine The Betrayal (The Fear Street Saga, #1) by R.L. Stine The Haunted Mask (Goosebumps, #11) by R.L. Stine Halloween Night (Halloween Night, #1) by R.L. Stine The Secret (The Fear Street Saga, #2) by R.L. Stine Last Pick (Last Pick, #1) by Jason Walz

Wow Elyse, that is just amazing! That is like the elite amount of books in a year! I’m very impressed with you and our other super readers.

I am quickly closing the gap on my goal of 100. I think I have 12 books left and while it will be a stretch between hosting holidays and working I think I can make it.

I’m looking at all of my goals for 2024 and will come back and finish this one. I’m doing some soul searching on how I want my life to improve in 2024. I’ve got some work to do.

My reading goal will probably stay at 100. I was thinking of dropping down to 75, but I feel like I really want to read 100 books a year even if I have to do a crazy year end push every year…haha

Thanks for being our supreme host over here and prodding such good prompts for group discussion.

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments *snort* Yeah, no! I am not getting anywhere near my goal this year, lol! I'm a 56 now and may get as far as 60. But I don't actually feel bad about that. I feel rested. I read what I wanted, when I wanted, put down things I wasn't enjoying... and then I discovered Balder's Gate 3 and spent countless hours completely immersed. And now that the end of the year is approaching and there's no way I'm going to knock out 19 books in 9 days I still feel like it's been a good reading year :)

I don't have any specific plans for this readathon other than read and enjoy the cozy feeling of knowing that I'm "reading with" a bunch of other people who just read for the love of it. I'm currently reading Rogue Protocol (The Murderbot Diaries, #3) by Martha Wells and will probably keep going with the Murderbot Diaries (I'm rereading them before starting the latest one).

I had a positively insane start to my winter holidays. My last day of work was Friday, I went to my parents' house on Friday evening, and I've barely been home since. Saturday was the big family party. Now we're past all the events but my sister and her family are still here all week. I came home today to spend one night in my own bed recuperating from being in a house with 7 other people lol.

Anyway, I did manage to finish The Ghost Next Door (Goosebumps, #10) by R.L. Stine . Since then I've been struggling to fit in any reading time and make progress on Under Heaven (Under Heaven, #1) by Guy Gavriel Kay . I only have 26 hours left to finish the last couple hours of Harrow the Ninth (The Locked Tomb, #2) by Tamsyn Muir , so that's my top priority while I'm at home, followed by reading as much as possible of Under Heaven.

When I go back to the craziness tomorrow, I'll bring a couple of shorter books with me, since I think they're easier to focus on when I'm only managing to steal brief moments of reading time.

I managed to finish Harrow the Ninth (The Locked Tomb, #2) by Tamsyn Muir before my audiobook expired, and I also (amazingly) finished Under Heaven (Under Heaven, #1) by Guy Gavriel Kay ! I ended up reading 117 books in 2023. I did a lot of letting it go over the weekend lol.

Now for a fresh start! Ish! Because I still have a few books on the go lol. I hate carrying books over to the new year, but in recent years I can't seem to get away from it. (When I finally finish Les Mis I am never putting myself through something like that ever again.)

To start the new year, I'm reading The Dead Girlfriend (Point Horror #40) by R.L. Stine and finishing Pierre & Jean by Guy de Maupassant . After that, we'll see! Priorities include working on those pesky books that carried over, getting a strong start on my Mount TBR challenge, and reading my library books.

Barely read anything yesterday. We decided to do whatever was left we needed to clean/organize before baby comes and for once I didn't feel like listening to an audiobook! But I did read 118 pages of The Fury by Alex Michaelides during the 3 reading sprints I actually did for Bout of Books (boutofbooks.blogspot.com). Today I've done the first sprint and started listening to A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki , recommended to me by one of the midwives! I already had it marked as 'Want To Read' but I also have *cough*17,000*cough* books on that shelf. Libby had it available so I scooped it up so we can talk about it at my 39-week appt on Thursday. It's a bit odd. lol. She said she attended a writing workshop with Ruth Ozeki in Vermont years ago. Very cool.

It's not like I own 17,000 books! ...ony like 3,000...lol. The 17,000 is just any book I ever had any inkling of an interest in reading. It gets added to 'Want To Read' shelf.

Oh I definitely used to take that number and divide it by how many books I was averaging a year to see how long it would take to complete! I know I won't read every book on the shelf but I know where to go when I don't know what to read. lol.
