One day, I believe!

I'm still hanging around. Been reading and staying busy with RL.
I'm probably going to call myself done with this round. I have read enough the last week or so to make a full word--maybe 2-- with some extras left over but noticed a few days ago on the SS that after R188 there were no more words/letters available so I didn't add anything else to the main/planning SS.
Will start looking at the new round to see what I got! Hope everyone has had a great week and an even greater weekend!

Also, it's a shame that we didn't get vuvuzela as one of our bonus words, as it appeared in Zoo City. Like what are the odds that vuvuzela would appear?!

Great to hear from you!
We didn't want a fifth ZELA without any VUVUs that we maybe wouldn't be able to complete (because for a while there it really wasn't looking good...). But now things are much brighter on the VUVU front
I added two more full VUVUZELAs so please do add your books to the main tab, they'd be awesome to have :)

Oh that would've been really cool to have! Fun coincidence!

Remember....IF I can see it, I will more than likely fill in for what's missing, as I know what to look for. If I can't, then I assume we are done.😆
Thank you! I will add my books to SS and shelf! I'm a little behind getting everything added to my GR shelves as RL has been keeping me busy! I hate trying to get caught up. Can we put RL on pause and just read and do reading challenges for a week🤣

I completed one whole word and all of the second word except the "E". IF we don't have one I can get one read by tomorrow before the cut off.

Also, you are more than welcome to share ALL your finished books (if they work for at least one of the letters, whether they're currently 'free' or not, and meet the requirements of course) in the books tab. We could always end up needing another book with a certain letter in case someone doesn't finish or - since we had 1 backup U/V book that didn't have a spot yet I could move another book and now we can even open up another word!
So if you have more finished books, please add them in the next ~20 hours!

Well we did shout for some U's and V's a few times, and we didn't know you could cover them since you didn't let us know 😅 we were honestly worried we'd end up having several partial spell-outs and would end up not getting any points for those at all 😬
We didn't know you still had this many finished books (which is kinda awesome ngl :D)! but maybe it'd be easier for both you and us if you updated more often haha, I think trying to get caught up is always so much harder when we let things (books in this case) accumulate 🙈

Please make sure you finish your last books for round 1 and add them to the spreadsheet with some time left before the deadline. We do have 30min after to finish updating the spreadsheets, but better be safe.
Let us know once you're done reading for the round! (No need to say it a second time if you've already confirmed you're finished 😉)
For round 2, any book started after the beginning of the challenge and finished after round 2 begins (10pm CET / 9pm UK / 4pm EST) counts!
As some of you have already spotted, there are new tabs for Round 2 in the planning spreadsheet - feel free to start adding books you're going to read.
ℹ️ Communication really is key here, especially for hard words like we had during round 1. Even if you're not updating the planning spreadsheet immediately with every book you finish, do try to update every couple of days or so in the thread with an indication of what you're reading. It really helps us out (and will avoid situations like we've just had where we captains are really concerned we're not going to finish spelling out enough words to have all our finished books count 😅)

That's all the reading from me for Round 1. Now preparing for the next round :)

Not sure if anyone is looking for inspo for the different cities but I use both of these reddit pages a lot to find some random reads (also the romanceBooks one - they get VERY specific sometimes lol)

Oh no :( I'm on my way!

Aoife, would you like the audio? I might be able to get it.

There has been an adjustment to the round 2 bonus challenges.
Cover colors
Instead of five, we are now getting a bonus for ten red covers!
Locations
We still have to visit 10 different locations from the list, but once we've ticked off 10, we can go for repeats and collect additional points for those cities!
- There's a max of three times that we can visit each city.
- We don't have to finish the 10 different places before we go for repeats, however they will only count if we've got 10 by the end of the round. So we still need 10 different locations!
- We've currently got 6 planned, which means there are four more options, a few of which shouldn't be that hard to get.
- So: Please add your books' settings to the planning spreadsheet if the setting is on the list, even if someone else has already claimed that city! The full list is at the top of this thread and also on the spreadsheet).
- Remember, the book must be set at least 50% in the location.

The November BOMs have been announced! Please do think about volunteering for DQs if you're interested in reading either of those - we can always brainstorm questions together as a team if you're nervous!

Isn't it always like this 😂 I put a bunch of library loans I've got out on the sheet and now I'm like... what if I started something else!!

I got the audio, here's the link:

I'm so bad for this lol get a load and then see something else I decide is more interesting then

I'll get it too since it's already there - just in case haha. (don't think I'll ever listen to it though, it's just not for me *shrugs*

I think it's okay for you to read something else if it has a red cover or a setting we need :b how long do you get to keep your library loans?

Soooo do we have any more takers on book settings??
It would help IMMENSELY if we got at least a little bit of feedback y'know 😅

I do have books lined up for the 5 different cities but I don't want to claim it just yet. I have books for:
Detroit
New Orleans
Toronto
Austin
Nashville

I was about to cheer for you having found books for all 5 cities in the USA until I realized that I'm dumb because Toronoto is clearly not in the US lol
Still awesome though! Means we got 10 different cities covered and will get bonus points for other cities and repeats (x2) as well :D
So, people of the world, it doesn't matter which city from the list you will be reading for now, just do it! :D

Hahaha I wish... but so far I'm staying strong! Hoping to finish a couple books today
Usually I can keep them for 3 weeks but I've only got like 10 days left on both so they neeeed to be finished this week

ughh yeah that's so annoying. it's also so hard to find out where books are set from most summaries lol why don't they just tell us!!

Bea's friend, Opal. :)"
Thank you! :)

Finished it while walking the dog after work :D

I think if I had read it as an ebook or a hard copy it would have taken me forever to get through, but with an audiobook I generally feel like you have less time to think about it or linger on something specific, especially if you're doing something else while listening and don't have your phone in your hand the whole time to go back or pause right away; it just keeps moving which I think makes it easier to get through hard hitting topics. And in I'm Glad My Mom Died there's also some comedic relief throughout so you won't get stuck on the hard stuff (if you listen to it at least, imo).
Plus the audio is narrated by Jennette McCurdy herself which is absolutely beautiful but also very emotional at one point especially. The book isn't just sad though, I'm sure you'd be okay - unless you need an actual trigger warning for (view spoiler) not sure if anything else but if you want to know something specific go ahead and ask!!
