This storytakes place in a small town where there is a laboratory/compound on a mountain or hill over looking the small town. this story jumps right into it and there are three/four main characters all scientist/reachers working at the lab. I remember there being an affair between two of them or a forbidden relationship because they are coworkers. They discover something that they were doing actually worked and they opened a door/portal to a different realm and the women (I believe the main character) goes through it and when she goes through "something" comes out. She gets stuck in this "world" that looks like a forrest but it's different like the place has this filter over it so she knows she's somewhere else that's not earth. Back in the lab the monster starts to kill people and the man who she had a "relationship" with is trying to get her back all while trying to stay hidden from this thing and help his fellow coworkers. One of the other coworkers leaves the compound and puts it under lock down, knowing he is killing everyone inside. He knows he's a cowards but his family is staying in the near by small town and he knows he has to protect them and keep that thing contain and call the military and tell them what they have done. That is as far as I got into the book until I missed placed it. All this happened within the first couple chapters. I believe the book was small in size and maybe like 300-400 pages because I remember the fount being very small. I want to say the book was dark, maybe even black with maybe just the title and an image that didn't give much away. Got it in B&N in the thriller/suspense section. honestly now looking back this book reminded me a lot of stranger things but no kids and just the "other place" and monster that is describe to be like a demogorgon if I remember correctly.
