Kelly | 1003 comments I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It centers around video games, but the lead characters and how they relate to each other is what the story is really about. Sam Masur and Sadie Green met while they were young and bonded over video games. After not being in contact for several years they reconnect in college and work on creating their own game.

Their first video game, Ichigo, is a tremendous success and their lives are changed. They start a company, hire people, promote their games and become know throughout the industry. This takes up their lives and changes how they relate to reach other. Over time resentments build and who gets credit for things becomes an issue. Then a tragedy happens. How they deal with it continues to affect both Sam and especially Sadie.

The book connects video games to things going on in the world. It tells what games in our culture were popular at different times. It shows how much work goes into creating games and how the technology changes quickly. I found this interesting.

The characters of Sam and Sadie continue to develop as they get older. The reader sees their strengths and weaknesses. They are not perfect and must adjust to each other's flaws. It is a well written book.

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2599 comments I really enjoyed this one and it surprised me too! I'm not a gamer but my son is so it was easy for me to accept these characters and their commitment to gaming. I'm pretty sure I gave it 5 stars too under the friendship tag.
