I'm glad Eve solved the case although I wish she had been able to bring the senator to justice since he took the easy way out. I'm really loving that Peabody is in so much of this book, I like her character a lot so I want her to be around more. However, I don't trust Casto. There's something shady about him.

I just don't know who else it would be if it isn't him. I don’t think David did it; it all seems way too convenient that they just found the knife!! I really like her as a detective though, she’s so sarcastic lol (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1-4: (view spoiler)[I was quite daunted by this series but finally decided to give it a try after all, I have heard numerous praises and it seems to be well loved by the readers. The future setting is quite fascinating and I am liking Eve as the main character so far. Her interactions with Roarke give the impression of an impending romance. I am curious to learn more about this case she is investigating, the killer looks like is motivated by some kind of trauma in his past (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 5-8: (view spoiler)[This case is getting even more strange by the second. If the killer was after Sharon's diaries why would he then turn to Lora for the second kill especially since they both had so little in common. I feel like Roarke is definitely hiding a lot of things from Eve but he is definitely not the killer. I cannot bring myself to trust Charles completely yet and there is something off about him (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 9-11: (view spoiler)[I kind of get the attraction between Eve and Roarke but I can't stand by her decision to give into her desires when the investigation is still ongoing. The killer is one smart man for dealing with the security systems as swiftly as he did. Getting a glimpse of Eve's past was an interesting addition to the story and now I am curious to learn more about her. I wonder if this case would ultimately connect to her somehow (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 12-15: (view spoiler)[I got a bit peeved when Roarke was hurt that Eve called him in for questioning, why was he even expecting her to undermine her job and her career simply by believing in him and obviously he was going to be in the clear since he had an airtight alibi so I don't understand what difference it made. I do however like that he is helping Eve with the case and personally too. We are so far into the book but no clue who the killer is yet (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[Yikes yikes yikes never in a million years could I have imagined the senator would turn out to be such a vile and disgusting human, Rockman became even more of a monster after becoming an accomplice to the senator for the murder of his own granddaughter. I hope it doesn't become a pattern and the author does not make Roarke related to the victim in some way in order to give him a role to play. So far, the ex husband and the lover seem like pretty obvious suspects so I am not much sold on the idea, curious to see what more is revealed and whether the stolen umbrella turns up somewhere (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4-8: (view spoiler)[UGH Roarke being acquainted with the second murder victim too is way too convenient unless the killer has some personal motive against him and is actively trying to frame Roarke for the killings. Eve's aversion to commitment is not at all odd considering the childhood she has had, Roarke getting her a ring was definitely a step in the wrong direction. I hope Morse gets his ass whipped by the law by the end of the book (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 9-12: (view spoiler)[poor Louise, she wasn't even the target yet she is dead. I am trying very hard to like Nadine and I do understand that she is just doing her job but damn it, the reporters really are in a horde to make big news for their channels. I liked the way Eve put Morse in his place, I believe he is annoying but can't do anything as sinister as murdering people in cold blood. The Whitney family being involved in this all - there is a low probability. I still feel like it's someone that hasn't been introduced yet (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 13-16: (view spoiler)[I feel like there's more to the story than either David or Marco being the killer, I am leaning more towards Mirina at this point because she is the only one that hasn't entered the circle of suspiscion even once since the murders started. But i am still at a loss at how the second victim was connected to her and what the motive for murder might be. I am glad to see Eve making progress in her romantic relationship with Roarke (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[DAMN that snake Morse, I can't believe he'd go to such lengths for his career, he sure hid quite a lot of resentment towards women underneath his cool exterior. The action scene towards the last was very engaging and high tension, I loved it. I admire how badass Eve is and is not just a cop in name. I would have liked to see Morse rot in jail though instead of him dying at the crime scene. Dying was too easy of a punishment for him (hide spoiler)]

Hmm, I reckon Eve could have headed Roarke off quite easily had she wanted to, & Roarke's possessive, egocentric action seems out of character to me - insane jealousy doesn't sit well on him. I hated their "makeup" scene.

I feel let down by this episode in Roarke & Eve's life. It's the usual fare - Eve does her cop thing & Roarke does his slightly dodgy thing - but it didn't really rise to the occasion for me, even though she got her man & saved the other. I usually like the interaction between them but this episode put me off a bit. Peabody is always fun & has a refreshing attitude to just about everything; Mavis is good for a laugh, too.

Leonardo being missing makes him too obvious of a suspect so I am not inclined to focus at him atm. I was once again irked that Roarke knew and had slept with the victim this time around as well, how many women can a man possibly be with argh!!?? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 5-8: (view spoiler)[Leonardo has no memory of that night and I guess he is only confessing because he thinks he might have killed Pandora in a daze. There is no doubt that someone is trying to set up Mavis but I am curious to find out if it is because of something related to Eve or is there something about Mavis that even her best friend is not aware of (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 9-12: (view spoiler)[Damn the level of abuse Eve went through in her childhood is enough to make anyone shudder with terror. I liked that Mavis is still being the best friend Eve needs and helping her with all the wedding preparation but this new memory that unlocked for Eve during the spa day has the potential to put a hitch in the wedding plans. She needs Roarke's support more than ever now (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 13-16: (view spoiler)[I am glad that Dr. Mira's report worked in Mavis' favour and atleast she is not as big of a suspect now as she was in the starting. There is no doubt that Jerry was using and is set to profit much from Pandora's death but I am wondering if she really had it in her to kill as violently as Pandora's death was and still escape suspiscion for so long. Redford's theory about how he was giving Pandora money for investment was such bullshit (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Good, fast-paced thriller. We were going along really well until the end, say the last 50p, when it became stupidly melodramatic. So, Roarke & Eve are upset at each other because he does what he feels he has to & she gets cranky at him, fair enough, but as far as I can see she had nothing she could have charged Mick for anyway. As for the last blasting denouement, it was absolutely unnecessary & ridiculous, no way would Roarke have been so unprepared so his friend's demise was gratuitous rubbish - shades of Jessica Fletcher.

It seems that Eve is allowed to have friends but Roarke can't, the author seems to want to keep him isolated & it's getting a bit creepy. As for Eve's treatment of Summerset - don't get me started -, she's allowed to speak to him like dirt when she wants something but he's got a stick up his arse when he doesn't want to accomodate her, Pah! I keep reading that Eve has a great sense of humour, even Magda says so, but I've yet to see any evidence of it. I'm even starting to disbelieve in this romance of theirs. Yep, they love each other, but we only see evidence of Eve's feelings under dire circumstances. It makes me tired & I keep hoping for an improvement. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 13-16: (view spoiler)[The FBI :> Somebody smack this son of a bitch into oblivion. Why did the FBI even accept him into their ranks? I don't get it. He doesn't work well with anyone, and he doesn't seem like the type of guy who would fall into place when need be. (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[I like that there are more emotional bits in this story on both sides of the relationship. Usually, it's more of Roarke being the perfect husband and caring for Eve during her vulnerable moments. I am really sad about Mick though. He was an interesting character, and I wish he could've stuck around more. Why does Robb have to get rid of people from Roarke's past so quickly? :((( Welp, I guess he's probably a bit too gray of a character for him to stick around. (hide spoiler)]

Read mostly in one sitting.
(view spoiler)[I really enjoyed this episode in the Dallas-Roarke saga. They've reached their first wedding anniversary & neither has killed the other, in fact, they're more obsessed with each other than ever. I actually liked seeing Roarke get a somewhat hot under the collar & take a bit of control back from Eve in this one, she usually has it her own way which creates an imbalance in their relationship at times. Of course, he shouldn't have gone to Whitney without telling her, & she shouldn't have "fogotten" to mention Mira's interest to him. That's marriage for you. I do like to see them working together, willingly or otherwise.

A face from Eve's past plays a pivotal role in several murders, a person with a personal vendetta against her, & hers. Peabody is developing well, so well that Eve sets her on an independent cold-case investigation - excellent to see. We also meet the strangely fascinating Peabodys senior - what eerie, mesmerising powers do Delia's parents wield? These Free-agers are slightly uncanny. A deeper look into Eve's childhood runs a horrifying counterpoint to some of the more light-hearted moments. I think there is a little too much dwelling on both Roarke's & Eve's early lives, but it does lead to some very spicy sex scenes - entertaining, if a little over-the-top on occasion.

I would agree with another reviewer that this was more about relationships than crime, but I found it amusing, engaging & easy on the eyes, although I wouldn't want them all to be like this. (hide spoiler)]

I enjoyed the tale but I do get so irritated by Eve at times.

(view spoiler)[A highly improbable but very entertaining episode in the "In Death" series. Robb does come up with some intriguing murder scenarios. I enjoyed the procedural aspect & the character interaction. There is a good chosen-family vibe in this one.

I do get tired of Eve's black-and-white views, her contempt for people who don't play by the book, unless she wants something, her double standards. No one is allowed to do their job properly, except Eve. It's always, just let me do my job, but I don't give a shit about anyone else doing theirs, &, no taking the law into your own hands, unless I feel like assaulting someone. On the other hand, I like that she's a good copper & tries hard to find justice for those who can't. I just wish the author wouldn't have her carry on so much like a one man band & express so much contempt for everyone who doesn't fit her extremely narrow ideals. (hide spoiler)]

Ditto above. Dropped half a star because Eve's single-mindedness, which comes at the expense of others.

(view spoiler)[There are some giant leaps to get to the solution for this one, I had to go backwards to be sure I didn't miss any actual clues. The ending was a bit weak - I can't say I felt sorry for the nutcase responsible, he's perfectly safe in his own twisted world, not so Crack's sister, et al.

I thought Roarke's visit to Ireland was a bit gimmicky, really, much as I like him. I didn't believe Eve's first reaction to him shutting her out, either. I frequently find the whole grand love story a bit melodramatic & superficial, but I'm certain Eve would have reacted in the first place as she finally did after speaking to Mira. No way would she have let him get away with keeping her at a distance.

Eve's complete disdain for anyone else's career, in fact, anyone but her dearest allies is becoming very trying & over the top. While I continue to appreciate her dedication to seeking justice for murder victims, she is fast running out of other positive qualities. I really hope the series doesn't continue heading in this direction. Just thinking about it, I've had to drop a star.

The Eve/Summerset sniping continues apace & is another thing I find irritating - would you really treat your husband's father in that manner? It doesn't show much respect for Roarke, either. Just imagine if Roarke treated Mavis with such contempt. A little bit of sparring is OK, even expected, between them, but the depths it has sunk to is rather noisesome & humourless. Have to love Summerset's satisfaction when events transpire as he has subtly, or not so, pushed them, though. Comic relief is provided by Peabody - she gets the best lines, especially the Roarke-inspired ones. (hide spoiler)]

An entertaining, quick read. This one is an exciting one for Peabody: she & McNab have taken a lease on a flat together - woohoo! - & I enjoyed seeing her make it through her detectives exam. Eve is her usual self: Summerset is still on hols but she just can't help but make the usual snide remarks about him even while he's not there.

In the process of investigating some brutal murders, Eve has managed to traumatise a couple of possible subjects on the flimsiest of evidence, her brutality could cause psychologically damage... oh, but that's ok because she's hunting for a murderer, hmm! Be as nasty as you like when you're sure, but I don't think Carmichael Smith or Thomas Breen deserved what she did to them on a couple of fishing expeditions. While I appreciate her dedication to the job, I don't think the end justifies the means. I want to like her because she's interesting & good at her job, not just because she gets the right results by being an arsehole.

Eve & Roarke bored or annoyed me in this one, Peabody is the star today.

I'm not quite sure why there are snowflakes on the cover when this one is set in a torrid New York summer but it looks nice.

(view spoiler)[This is an excellent episode in the lives of Eve & Roarke - computer crime, espionage, murder & conjugal disagreement between the MCs make for a well-paced & interesting tale. I enjoyed this one as much as the first few in the series: police procedural, delving deeper into Eve's past, marital discord & all the brilliant secondary characters - Peabody gets the best lines. Very good crime & great continued development of all the characters, such an easy read. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[A very enjoyable time was had with Eve & Roarke & their ever-increasing extended family of friends & colleagues. Even the ME, Morris, had a bit more development on this case - I don't recall him being quite so dapper before. The psychic aspect was an interesting addition to this case, with Eve willing to use any extra help in catching a deranged serial killer but, in the manner of many a good copper, not allowing herself to be sidetracked by same. I did expect the twist, mainly because of the psychical inclusions & also because of one name cropping up again, but I'm a little sorry that I was right.

As noted by other reviewers, it was amusing to find Roarke a little discombobulated by Mavis & Leonardo's request. They may have found something he isn't equipped to handle, but I doubt he'll fail when it really comes down to it because Roarke is a stand-up guy :0) (hide spoiler)]

The premise for this one is so interesting. I wonder how many days of the Twelve the killer will get through before they track him down. And I think it's funny that Eve ends up buying gifts at the places they're going on the investigation.

It's interesting that the killer also went after a man, makes him harder to find as they have to search for suspects who like both men and women now. Also, that last woman was lucky she had someone at home with her when the killer showed up. I'm curious if anything will come from the undercover work with Peabody and McNab.

Another person dead, up to four now and they don't seem any closer to the killer. I wonder if it is Rudy? He seems too obvious a choice. So maybe it's Simon from the salon? Hopefully the undercover stuff pans out and gives them a lead.

I was right, it was Simon. And he went after Peabody. I'm glad Eve and Roarke got there in time to stop him. Hopefully Peabody will be ok after everything that happened. Overall I enjoyed this one, it had a great mystery.

An excellent episode in the "In Death" series, I enjoyed it enough that I managed to ignore a lot of the things that usually irritate about Eve.

The crime & procedures were well-plotted, interesting & moved along at a good clip. The antagonists were ghastly creatures & certainly deserved their comeuppance. The interaction & development of all the other characters was particularly good, especially Peabody maturing in her relationship with Eve, & it's great to see how Trueheart is getting along - he has a larger part to play in this one.

The ending felt a bit rushed & Nixie's actions towards the end had me grinding my teeth, but I suppose she had to use the link Roarke gave her at some point. Also, I would have liked to know more about the "wrong people" & Dian Kirkendall, but overall I was very well entertained. (hide spoiler)]

This one is interesting so far. I wonder why someone cut out the guy's heart? And with the organ transport bag, it's clear they want it for something. But what? Also, I don't like the look of this Bowers cop, she's going to cause trouble for Dallas.

So Eve definitely made someone nervous enough that they sent a droid after her. I wonder which of the doctors it was? My money is on Waverly right now, I didn't like him too much. I'm still curious what the purpose behind taking the organs is.

Wow I can't believe they took Dallas's badge and suspended her. I get that it's procedure but man that absolutely gutted her. I'm glad she's got a plan now and everyone's helping with it.

I'm glad everything was resolved and Eve got her badge back. I like how she managed to solve the case with Roarke and the team's help. Louisa's character was great so I hope we see her in future books and that she wasn't a one-off character.

This one is good so far. I don't buy that J.C.'s murder was a fit of passion by Lisbeth. I think she knew about the money and killed him to get it. I wonder if Eve will be able to prove it. The whole thing with Fixer is curious and I can't wait to see where that plot goes as it seems like it will be interesting.
