TerryJane | 4026 comments Update to Message #29. This is my Day 4 update... just a bit late.

Progress:
📚BOOKS: 9/7
🔖PAGES:
🎧HOURS: 41.75

✔️ The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise
✔️ The Story of Beautiful Girl

I am late with my update due to technical problems. The Story of Beautiful Girl audiobook was assembled in the wrong order. They numbered the conclusion and author's notes as if it were the second disc. How spoiler-y! It was an amazing story from a shameful part of US history, despite the need to read the second disc twice.

This was the second part of the non-traditional family double, so I marked those two YES on the tracking tab. Looks like we may have completed 5 of the Doubles. Yay!

I edited my tracking numbers not to reflect books that I am not counting for this challenge (and instead added them at the bottom of the spreadsheet), so hopefully that clears up the misunderstanding.

I will also add my progress from day 1 till now with all of the books that I am reading, as I'm not allowed to track them in the spreadsheet.

Thanks to you, Shari!
It seems something is wrong, you have 741 on your daily page tracking, but 751 on your books tracking...

Also, you did't add the title of your Non-prompt book 😅

Gwen, of course you are allowed to track all your books in the spreadsheet, but you have the add the same data on your daily tracking and on the books tracking ( prompts or non-prompts), I mean the pages/hours have to be the same in both totals, if not we have a problem

I've updated your pages/hours in your daily tracking, maybe now you see how it works.

Are you sure none of the "non-prompt" books you're reading fulfill any prompt?

Also, in the preliminary assignments, I matched "Island time" for the triple prompt "Family conflict" instead of for the single "family vacation." Can it be left in the triple or do you better think not?
If not we can make some adjustments.

Thanks for your time and understanding 😘

Hi Gwen!
Can I match "The knife of Memory" with the single prompt "Only child"?
I think "Hollow City" matchs some single prompts too: orphan/caretaker other than parent

Plans to add message #32:
The Soul of a Woman memoir where author describes family
The Red Bandanna: A Life. A Choice. A Legacy. lost family member
The Guncle living with caretaker other than parent

On the planning tab, no books are currently allocated for the third historical family. It's shown as Spy on message #32, but is not on the spreadsheet. I can add Once Upon a Wardrobe to cover that if needed. It is historical fiction about C.S. Lewis's early life. That would be more valuable to the team than the singles.

I know, I asked Shari not to delete it from her schedule, but in the end, since she didn't answer me, I'm not sure if she can read it or not. Anyway, since Cordelia is already reading a book that fits (The world that we knew), I moved it from the single prompt "a family that has been separated" to this triple.

IMPORTANT
🔸Sorry for being a bore but I have to insist that we have to be as meticulous as possible tracking our progress.

🔸Since we are facing the last leg of the readathon, I think it would be good to do a recount of the tasks that each of us has assigned and, honestly, decide if we can carry them out or not, and thus see if we should make any shuffling with the books already read in order to obtain the greatest possible profitability.

🔸I've added a new mark (➡️) to the books we have in progress (message #32)

🔸If you're reading books that don't fit any prompt, maybe we can match them for the duo "recommended by a family member" (I think we can fit anything here) and see if the books already read for this prompt fit in other tasks.

COME ON, SIXTERS. WE CAN DO IT!!!

message 130: by Shari (new)

Shari | 483 comments I should be able to finish The Wedding Dress Sewing Circle tonight. Then I will start on Saturday Night at the Lakeside Supper Club. Next read-a-thon I will pay more attention to the number of pages in each book. I think I picked the longest books on my list! 😊

I was looking through the list of prompts and see where the book Spy would fill the same prompt at The Orphan Collector. I know I can get the Danielle Steel book read fast, so I may substitute it. I've never read any books by the author of The Orphan Collector so not sure how fast I can read this book. I will leave both on the list for now and see which one I have time to read. Maybe I'll get them both read.

Sorry that I deleted the book Spy. I had already deleted it when I saw your message. I've added it back.

✅Impossible Knife of Memory
Read a book featuring an only child (1/1)
✅Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating
Read 2 books that have dual POVs (2/2)

I also have one in progress, My Lady Jane which could potentially fulfill one of these briefs
Read 2 books about family ceremonies, rituals, traditions (wedding, funeral, reunion, etc.) - two of the MCs get married
Read 2 books about families living in foreign countries - (not sure if this would count) story takes place in England/France
Read 3 books about characters who are viewed as ‘loners’ or ‘outsiders’ - one of the MCs looked down on for being a bookworm
Read 3 books featuring historical (fiction or nonfiction) families - fictional story about Edward Tudor and Lady Jane Grey

I was going to apply the last one for the separated family prompt, but when I got to the tracking tab, I found that it's partially completed. Instead, I used it for caretaker other than parent, so I won't need Guncle.

With only two days left, I can pick up one or more of the triples if needed. Alternately, I could go ahead and fill in blanks wherever, and extras can go into the Page Points Only section. Until/unless I hear otherwise, I will look for the single, becomes a parent.

No plans yet -- becomes a parent

In Progress -- looking for partner, separated family, vacation, found family, family title, blended family

TBR (not started yet) -- orphan, historical, group/club, adopted

TerryJane | 4026 comments I've been looking at the discrepancies on the tracking tab.

Audio hours:
164.01 daily total (L25) - 148.43 book total (O131) = 15.58 hours difference (more hours recorded daily than recorded in book details)

Gwen has 11.58 hours in her daily breakdown (C25), but 0.0 hours in her book details.

Stacy has 18.97 hours in her daily breakdown, but only 14.97 hours in her book details, a difference of 4.0 hours.

Gwen's 11.58 + Stacy's 4.0 = 15.58 hours. Correcting those two errors will eliminate the audio discrepancy.

I will look at pages next.

TerryJane | 4026 comments Pages:
9136 daily total (L12) - 9472 book total (N131) = -336 difference (more pages recorded in book details than in daily section)

Gwen 1999 (C12) - 2360 = -361 page difference (more in book details than in daily totals)
390 + 345 + 100 + 400 + 635 = 1870 (prompt pages)
270 + 220 = 490 (page points only)
1870 + 490 = 2360

Shari 1802 (F12) - 1777 = 25 page difference (more daily than in book details)
417 + 304 + 384 + 411 = 1516 (prompt points)
261 (page points only)
1516 + 261 = 1777

Deidre 813 (G12) - 814 = -1 difference (one more page in book details than in daily total)
410 + 300 + 104 = 814

Stacy 221 (H12) - 200 = +1 difference (one more in daily than in book detail)
220

-361 + 25 - 1 + 1 = -336

Correcting the above entries will eliminate page count discrepancies.

It's like accounting. The pages or hours you record each day at the top should equal the pages or hours you list in your book details for that day at the bottom.

You're welcome, Carmen. The differences weren't going away, and I wanted to solve the mystery. 🔎😉

Deidre Long | 107 comments I should be able to finish Babel and I Have Some Questions For You. I am not sure if I will finish A Murmur of Bees but I will try. I will keep everyone updated.

Cordelia | 159 comments Update:
Books read: 4
Pages: 1951
Hours read: 33.5

The World That We Knew (read about a family that has been separated)
House of Earth and Blood (about the death of a family member)
The Kingpin of Camelot (mafia or mob)
Things in Jars

Things in Jars needs to be added to the spreadsheet but I'm not sure where.

Well done, Cordelia!
I've made some readjustments and matched "Things in Jars" with "a character who has secret or unknown heritage" and moved the book first assigned to this prompt to the single "featuring an orphan".
Now, as for the pages/hours you indicate, I can't figure it out. According to the links to the books in your post, the total pages would be 1,923, which does not coincide with what you report, so... HELP! 🤯
I understan that If you listened for 33.5 hours you have to subtract this from the total pages
For the moment, I am going to assign to each book the pages indicated in the links, when you clarify the pages/hours that you read/listened to for each book I will correct it
Thanks! 😘
