Alicia | 1490 comments Reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Probably won't finish today but will finish by tomorrow. It can fit under non-fiction for trivial pursuit.

I agree. Not sure how that part works either so I put my books in and hope for the best! I'm also now sure if we are meant to move completed books from the planning tab and put into completed, so I just leave them and add into completed.

Yes, definitely move things from Planned to Completed when you've finished a book! We'll double-check for things listed on both tabs as we go along so don't worry if you forget or just let us know here if you can't access the spreadsheet for any reason.

thank you :)

message 55: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Also started A Murder in Postcript which can count for murder but also military character, which is likely harder to fill.

message 56: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (jonquilles) | 192 comments Murder's usually pretty popular!

message 57: by Sheena (last edited Sep 12, 2023 06:17AM) (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments Well yesterday was sadly a 0 read day for me, but I'm making it up for it today :D

I've got The Haunted Hotel: A Mystery of Modern Venice playing on audio and will start reading My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises after work.

message 58: by Robin P, Orbicular Mod (new)

Robin P | 4014 comments Mod
I finished Vanishing Fleece: Adventures in American Wool on audio and put it under Trivial Pursuit: Science & Nature. It is about raising sheep, then the whole process for turning wool into yarn.

Thank you for your guidance!

message 60: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Finished I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings and put it under trivial pursuit nonfiction. Am I terrible for not liking Maya Angelou’s biography?!?!

Reading Murder in Postscript. Will probably finish it tomorrow.

message 61: by Bec (new)

Bec | 1339 comments I'm still finishing off The Karma Map. Hopefully I can finish tonight.

I started an audio book, listened to about 2 hours and then decided I'm not loving it so started another one...So whilst I can count the listen hours, I'm still a little way from finishing the new one!

message 62: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments @Alicia .. No way!! But I totally relate the the guilt of not liking something you feel like your supposed to.

I'm almost through my audiobook and about half way done MGSHRAA.. snuggling in to read for the rest of the night so I *might* get it done tonight.

message 63: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments @Bec .. the extra hours will be helpful and there are way too many great books to read to slog through something you're not enjoying. Hope you're enjoying the new pick.

message 64: by Sheena (last edited Sep 13, 2023 05:22AM) (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments Morning team, We're halfway through our challenge and more than halfway through the prompts with 15 completed and 10 left to go!! Way to go, Top Hatters

If you're choosing your next book we have a few prompts with only one possibility so may benefit from a 'plan b'
- A book with a weapon of any kind on cover
- A book that has circle, square, cube, or cross shape on cover

Also - A book with 2 or more authors has one for the count (and the formula looks correct) but I can't see an x anywhere so if you meant to mark a book with two authors let me know and I'll see if I can find the issue? (a space, white letter? gremlins : ) )

message 65: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments I should finish with Happiness Falls this morning. I has a very round moon on the cover would this work for a circle?
Happiness Falls by Angie Kim

message 66: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Definitely think moon counts for circle.

Will finish Murder in postscript this afternoon and that will go to military.

I’ll look at what prompts are left before picking my next read.

message 67: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments I completed Happiness Falls and put it under A book that has circle, square, cube, or cross shape on cover.

I am not sure what I am reading next, I am going to see if I can find something with a weapon but will get started on one of my other books if I can't find anything.

message 68: by Robin P, Orbicular Mod (new)

Robin P | 4014 comments Mod
I have the weapon! I finished Well Met Well Met (Well Met, #1) by Jen DeLuca . The drawings in the background include a sword.

message 69: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments Today seems like it might be a bad reading day for me. I listened to an hour of The Spare Room and it is set during Covid lockdowns. Happiness falls had a Covid time line as well and I am not sure I want to be in that world again so quickly.

I am in book limbo, can't decide to continue on or move on to something new...

message 70: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Move on! Don’t waste time if it’s not bringing you joy. We can still get rolls from what you did read

message 71: by Bec (last edited Sep 13, 2023 04:19PM) (new)

Bec | 1339 comments I finished The Karma Map and slotted it in for set in India.

I'm currently reading/listening to The Queen's Gambit. Enjoying it more than I thought I would. Funnily enough I used a different book called Check Mate for the book related to chess as chess isn't my thing at all and this was a fun romance...now I'm reading The Queens Gambit all about Chess and loving it. I'll be watching the netflix show once its finished.

I also just started First Victim.

message 72: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Bec, where do you think those will fit. I'm thinking of finding something for 2+ authors which we don't seem to have something for.

Was thinking either Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch or The Personal Librarian. Won't be able to start till tonight

message 73: by Bec (new)

Bec | 1339 comments Alicia wrote: "Bec, where do you think those will fit. I'm thinking of finding something for 2+ authors which we don't seem to have something for.

First Victim will fit book with a murder. 2 murders in the first chapter!
I assume I could count The Queen's Gambit as entertainment and arts with chess.

message 74: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Started Good Omens which will fit two authors. But I’m tired so going to head to bed early. Probably won’t finish till Friday but I’ll keep adding time read

message 75: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (ronireads13) | 816 comments Just finished reading King's Cage. It fits a few, like includes a royal character but im leaning towards A book where war is involved as that may be a bit harder to fill. I'll let our leaders decide and see what primpts are open to decide my next read.

message 76: by Sheena (new)

There's a war in My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises so if I fill that and you do royal character we can check both off.

I also just finished The Haunted Hotel: A Mystery of Modern Venice so can check of murder too but of course feel free to swap around if there's a better strategy for getting all the prompts filled.

message 77: by Sheena (last edited Sep 14, 2023 09:13AM) (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 571 comments I just double checked and cleaned up some formatting on the spreadsheet.

Three prompts left to go, all with some logged book options
Two unused rolls, so we just need one more roll to complete round one ;)

Edited to update progress ...
- A book with 2 or more authors
- A book relating to History
- A book relating to Entertainment & Arts

message 78: by Samantha (last edited Sep 14, 2023 08:47AM) (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments Good morning, I ended up reading Fangirl, Vol. 3: The Manga last night.

The main character writes fanfiction based on a Harry Potter type story. Would this count as arts or even entertainment? Because it was a graphic novel it also had art work in it so maybe that counts?

Edit: I entered it as entertainment but can move if need be.

For Queen's gambit I think Chess is considered sport or leisure. But it being turned into a TV show could make it count as entertainment. I think it could also work for History since it is historical fiction.

I don't know how I missed this but you are not terrible! I didn't really care of The Diary of a Young Girl for me it was dull but it had nothing to do with Anne Frank just the content wasn't my thing.

I don't like to rate biography's or memoirs because I feel weird about rating someone's life.

Sounds good, Sheena. Thanks!

message 82: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Omg I didn’t like the Anne Frank one either, and I felt terrible then too. Haha

Robin P | 4014 comments Mod
I have felt guilty for decades because I never read Anne Frank! I have heard/read about it of course.

message 84: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I’d say that’s a better type of guilt lol

message 85: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (jonquilles) | 192 comments Somehow I forgot to check in yesterday, sorry everyone! Just finished Otherworld Barbara, Volume 1 and moving onto Vol. 2, and trying to get through Veronika Decides to Die (I feel like several of us have made weird choices this week that turned out not to be super fun and this is currently mine). I've started a second round of Parcheesi and we're doing such a good job getting in pages!

If we're still short on 2 author options I can squeeze in a quick Kit Rocha or Ilona Andrews? Urban fantasy is my favorite kind of junk food book anyways.

message 86: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Good Omens can fit there but if you finish the other first I don’t mind. Good omens can fit multiple places. A little slow in reading today because my small human was home sick. Hoping to finish it by Saturday

message 87: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments That said, if we’re looking to complete another round of prompts, I have a couple other shorter books I can get through and add 2 more books read by Sunday. At this rate, I’ll probably just be done with good omens

message 88: by Robin P, Orbicular Mod (new)

Robin P | 4014 comments Mod
I read the short When You Had Power and started a new column under Life - character gets a job. I am now reading The Widows of Malabar Hill, which would go under Set in India for a 2nd round.

message 89: by Bec (new)

Bec | 1339 comments I finished listening to The Queen's Gambit on my lunchtime walk today. This was the quickest I've ever listened to a book, whenever I could I had it on (driving in the car, walking around the house, walking anywhere else, on the train etc).

It has the genre as history on goodreads so I've slotted it under history.

message 90: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments I finished Sure, I'll Join Your Cult: A Memoir of Mental Illness and the Quest to Belong Anywhere and put it under non fiction.

Does anyone no if we finished when we go to bed on Saturday or on Sunday?

message 91: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I finished Good Omens. May not be able to update the spreadsheet till later but it fits 2 authors.

I’m torn. The writing was good and so funny. But it was also all over the place with two many characters.

message 92: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments And it’s when you go to sleep Sunday night

message 93: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (jonquilles) | 192 comments Alicia, I updated the spreadsheet with Good Omens so you're all good! We've officially finished one of each board game, way to go team! I tip my (top) hat to everyone 😉

Robin, did you want us to move Marmee to the completed section? I couldn't find anything in this thread mentioning it.

I also finished Otherworld Barbara, Volume 2 by Moto Hagio and put it under cover - mustard yellow. I've started marking our 2nd round entries in purple so let's see how far we get!

message 94: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Thanks Sophia! I won’t be able to pick up something new until tonight but I’ll check where we’re at and see if I can close any for a second round

Yes, I finished Marmee and It could go under Arts & Literature or History for Trivial Pursuit or under War or Takes aRisk under Risk.

message 96: by Bec (new)

Bec | 1339 comments so not much reading yesterday. After finishing the Queens Gambit at lunchtime, I decided to start the neftlix series after work....3 episodes in....ate into my reading time!

message 97: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (jonquilles) | 192 comments I've put Marmee under History for now and I burned through In Waves (a very fast graphic novel and also the fastest a book has made me cry!) so I put that under Sports & Leisure, which means we're halfway through another round of Trivial Pursuit already!

message 98: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Ok starting the family game. It’ll be my last book but I’ll finish it by Sunday to put somewhere

message 99: by Bec (new)

Bec | 1339 comments I'm listening to an audio book that is 4 hours and 23 minutes....does anyone know if that would equate to at least 100 pages? It's audible only so no book to check page numbers - Last One to Leave

That should be fine. I think we figured one minute per page but even at 2 pages a minute it would be over 100 pages.
