Book that starts with a boy on a space station or something where he accidentally gets whisked away in a ship with a green alien with 2 noses and feathers. He ends up finding his sister and I think that the space pirates who they kept running into ended up being their parents.

The Greatest Show off Earth by Margaret Mahy? It has space pirates and aliens with feathers and two noses, but it looks like the main character is a girl.
