Original Publication Year Sort Problem

I have found when searching on a specific author using the sort drop down box sorting by "original publication year" I am not getting the information desired. I normally use this sort function to see the latest books written by an author that appear at the top of the list.

Here is an example of the problem (see links below) where the newest book by the author instead of appearing at the top of the original publication year sorted list appears for me on page 3 instead. I assume the original publication date is not being entered somehow correctly because the item appears without a "published" date in the sorted list. However, when you look at the book on an individual basis there is a "Published" date.

I realize you can fix this one book but my issue is larger than that. I've looked at approximately 10 more authors and found (Julie Johnson, Piper CJ, Camilla Chafer, & Evangeline Anderson) who all have their most current books appearing at the end of the original publication year sort. Some of these had quite a few their latest books showing at the end of the sort. For example Anderson had at my count 8. The odds aren't great at 4 authors out of 10 having issues so makes it seem to be a wide spread problem to me.

My question is are there system fixes that can and will be initiated to
- ensure the original publication date field is required, and
- clean up books that are missing the original publication year, maybe by reviewing edition and series date info?

They sort correctly for me.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a bug in the sort system. Try refreshing the page, or switching back to popularity and setting the pub year sort again.

Hi, the original publication date field was not filled in for this particular book. It takes a Librarian user to add it manually, for all new books.

Maybe someone who used to do this for the authors you love recently has stopped volunteering so that the OPD field remains blank for new titles. If the field is blank, the book title will sort after all the titles that has the field properly filled in (when sorting by OPD).
