Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I've got a book in the wings that will take place at least part in tasmania, but won't know how much until I read it. Probably won't get around to it until July.

message 3702: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments The book I just finished works for the folklore task. yay!

message 3703: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sorry,

none of my current books seems to fit anything at the moment. 😥

message 3704: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments It happens. I don't use more books than I do, by quite a margin 😆

message 3705: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments OK, just realised that my upcoming book will cover a page count task.

message 3706: by Melindam (last edited Jun 17, 2025 01:00AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Added a few books to the sheet, but feel free to kick out any of them if you have finished books that fit! 😊

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments So I just finished Wild Dark Shore, which is set on an island halfway between Tasmania and Antarctica. It is described as technically belonging to Tasmania, as that's the nearest landmass.
There are also a few flashbacks set on the Tasmanian mainland too.

We ok with using that for the task? I do have that other one possibly next month, but until I read it, I won't know how much of the book is set there.

message 3708: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I'm OK. 😊

message 3709: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I'll pop it in. Happy to move if our moddish teamies veto 😉

message 3713: by Melindam (last edited Jun 21, 2025 05:44AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Grabbed MC identifies as male / char infatuated with my current book. :)

Maybe hate crime will be fitting as well. Need to read a bit further.

message 3714: by Melindam (last edited Jun 21, 2025 05:50AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Moved my books about a bit, took the 500-650 page count as well and that covers hate crime.

message 3715: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Are we OK with the Spanish version Juan for "character named John"? 🤭

Which one? (There must be several I'm trying to palm off on you. 🤭)

message 3720: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments You feeling better Cat?

I can have a look for food on cover once I finish my current book this afternoon/evening.

message 3721: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
Bother, no. It's Pendragon Legend, which is set in UK.

But I've the ability to switch up for one set in Hungary....

message 3722: by Melindam (last edited Jun 23, 2025 05:09AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments If someone has a book for character identifies as male, just feel free to kick out mine.

I'll finish, but struggling with it. One of the few Heyer books where she went for an infantile female MC and I kind of loathe her.

Also, my HOBART in title book will be a slow read as I need to wait for the current TT travel itinerary to complete before finishing that one.

I am feeling better, after a few days near death and then some more with malfunctioning brain...
Still a bit coughy and spluttery, but that's just annoying now

Melindam | 8375 comments Great!! Thank you. :)

message 3730: by Sammy (new)

If not, I'm currently listening to one set in Poland.

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I'm reading one by a Hungarian author but set in UK.... so Poland is excellent!

Really need to get the Berry Pickers BOM off my plate first though in any case.

message 3734: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Ok, I'll drop it in and we should have another new one in an hour or so 😁

message 3737: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Anyone with an author/char named John?

If yes, I could cover 1, 3 & 5 for this.

message 3738: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I'm sure I can chuck in a John if nobody else has one... May be a day or 2, just starting a chunky one!

message 3739: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments In fact, I just finished one by John Wyndham on the 17th, and don't think I used it anywhere!

What was the Sri Lanka book? Might be one I can pick up in a couple of days when I finish my current read (that doesn't work for any of the open tasks)

message 3742: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments The Pavilion in the Clouds. I rather enjoyed it!

message 3743: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
Also Sri Lanka: Brotherless Night, which was well written but also about the oppression of the Tamils and civil war / insurrection so not light hearted

message 3744: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments For Scylla, I removed my book as I just realised that we need the word "fire" and not just the letters.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I'm currently on an 800+ book set in NZ, so naturally it won't fit anywhere 😆

This month's genre is Historical fiction, so unsurprisingly I have a few real chonkers lined up 😁
