Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Pretty easy tasks this time!

message 3602: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments My paladin book could be moved to the sharp weapon task if anyone else happens to have something pointy...

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments If anyone needs any books for Algeria, I'm really enjoying What the Day Owes the Night (despite having to read it on my kindle...).

Only about 2/3 through, but unless it goes drastically downhill in the final third, it's looking like a 4 star read for me.

Melindam | 8375 comments HAPPY GLORIOUS REVOLUTION DAY!

Don't forget to smell the lilacs or eat a hard boiled egg! 💜🥚

message 3607: by Sammy (last edited May 25, 2025 07:28AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I note you left out the reasonably priced love..? 😂

It's probably the lilacs that are causing the current issues with my eyes doing the watery-itchy thing. I'm about 5 minutes from trying to scrub them with a wire brush... ARGGGHHHH!

message 3608: by Melindam (last edited May 25, 2025 07:30AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments 🤣🤣

I didn't want to push it...

In that case, just eat a reasonably priced egg, Sammy.

message 3615: by Sammy (last edited May 28, 2025 08:16AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I'm about to start on one for the double letter task, which also happens to have a sword on the cover. (ETA: It also works for the character name is animal name task if it comes to that!)

If you're only reading for the task, or if it fits another task as well Sophie, there is the option to move stuff around.

message 3616: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Grabbed character name is also a type of animal (first, last, nickname) with Kitty.

message 3622: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Not just a cat, but narration by our lovely RA. My ears are very happy right now.

message 3623: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Mmmm ... are they purring or what? 😆

message 3624: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Something like that 😆

message 3625: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I have a book set in Africa coming up in June, but probably not right away (buddy reading with Jenny & Judith and we haven't settled on when we're reading yet). I won't claim the task, as there's a good chance one of you will have a suitable book pop up in the meantime 😉

But if not, I can cover.

Melindam | 8375 comments Grabbing trickster character with The Odyssey narrated by Ian McKellen - I couldn't resist buying it. 😆

I read it when I was 17... OMG..

message 3628: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments So only about 8 years ago, yes? 😉

I've got the historical fiction covered. Sorry Mel it's only 164p so not great for TT but does cover our author born in Turkey.

message 3631: by Melindam (last edited May 31, 2025 02:50AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Thank you for taking Turkey-born author for us, Sophie.

I don't mind about low page count at all!! 😊

*tries to convince self I really don't need yet another copy of The Odyssey...*

message 3637: by Melindam (last edited May 31, 2025 04:47AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments 🤭 Sorry Sammy, but I did promise to let you know how I find it.

BTW, I also love the translation by Robert Fagles. 😊

I decided that for The Iliad I will try Emily Wilson's out of curiosity.

message 3638: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Weird... for some reason it has appeared in my audible wishlist...

😆

message 3639: by Melindam (last edited May 31, 2025 05:06AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments 😆

I knew that to happen.

I'm sure that there is reasonable explanation beyond the supernatural.

message 3640: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I think those gremlins Sophie mentioned must have migrated to audible...

message 3641: by Melindam (last edited May 31, 2025 05:17AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments 😆could be, could be....

I sampled the Emily Wilson translation of Iliad, but I'm not impressed with the narrator.

On the other hand, Dan Stevens is narrating the translation by Robert Fitzgerald (internet claims his is the most accurate), so....

look, the gremlins put this one onto my wishlist 😆

message 3642: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Weird that... It's some kind of epidemic 😆

message 3643: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
I enjoyed the Emily Wilson translation on audible.

Haven't read the Odyssey so the Ian McKellen narration may be beset by more gremlins.

message 3644: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments It's a virus-spreading gremlin. 😆

message 3645: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Chased off the Lion, got Ms. Snek-head instead...

Medusa

1 350 to 450
2 takes place in a desert
3 someone is beheaded
4 Mirror on cover
5 Snake on cover

message 3646: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Is sharp weapon or snake on cover harder? Once and Future Witches has both.

message 3647: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I'd say snake. In fact I believe one of the books I read for that monster also covers sharp weapon. I will have made a note of it, but have no SS access until the morning

message 3648: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I moved your book to the Snake sophie, and finished off J. Ripper esq.

Burke & Hare (Scotland / Edinburgh)

1 100 to 175
2 takes place in Scotland
3 dual POV
4 16 in publication date
5 character does some type of research

message 3649: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I have a gazillion books set in Scotland, and am pretty sure I have at least 2 in the 100-175 page range. I'll take a peek shortly.

message 3650: by Melindam (last edited Jun 04, 2025 03:08AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments AAARRGHHH!

There's an audiblecom 80% sale going on.

Have I just bought several books? Yes, of course I have!

I couldn't resist Daunderlust: Dispatches from Unreported Scotland b/c of Sammy - it was 3 USD foreffssake ..... among other books.

Also bought the Scalzi-Christmas b/c of Sammy, obviously. 😆🥰
