eh... a bat, brick, rock, log, tree?

I do have a book with a tree on cover on the go...

Melindam | 8375 comments Apropos of an earlier conversation with Sammy, I very much liked The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury and

@Sophie,

I think Joe would probably enjoy it too. Maybe a bit later, though from what you say, he is much tougher at 7 than I am at almost 50. 🀭

I'm really sorry it has not been translated into Hungarian, as I thought Domi may like it as well.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Yeah, I was thinking clubs and staffs. mostly I have a gazillion swords though, it seems.

Taking a break from yet more paint slinging (finally doing the living room now. Final stretch!) because I'm aching in places I didn't know existed πŸ˜†

just finished the book with trees and rocks!

Do we trust my spinning luck? for context: when asking for World Wheel spins I was delivered Egypt & Russia, both on the harder end of the range...

not too heinous! I thought about spinning World Villain, but was worried we'd end up with an easy country that no one was reading for as I assume we are all excitedly hunting down hard locales! (incidentally, Luxembourg! WOW that was tricky. The interesting local-authors were all poetry or short stories that didn't hit 100 pages.)

Alicanto
1 350 to 450
2 Author initials in ENTIERRO
3 Item or animal with wings on cover
4 Set in a mountainous location
5 "treasure" in text

Indeed. I have upcoming DR Congo, Uganda, Monaco and Holy See. 🀭

And I just realised that I could use some Hungarian classics for Slovakia and Romania settings (because of history & stuff) or authors born there for later.

I could cover page count, animal with wings and treasure in text if someone can take Historical Fiction where my Queens' Play is currently languishing. I'm keeping it for TT, so haven't started yet.

nice :)

I've born-in-Egypt (World Wheel), Congo-Brazzaville, Luxembourg, Croatia, Albania for my first lot, with some medium ones in the Tower planning tower too :)

Good gang of readers: Danielle's holding off on the newest Nalini Singh for Fiji purposes, bless her, and others have volunteered for Monaco, Laos, Bulgaria and such. love an engaged team!

lets do the switch! I'm not at my leisure to choose what I fancy, so can peruse with a view to Historical Fiction :)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Yeah, Lux is a hard one! I went to our resident expert (more commonly known as E) for my personal world reading thing I have going on, and after her lamenting a distinct lack of Luxembourgian books by writers born there (local authors being a requirement for me personally) that have been translated into English, I've settled on dusting off my German for that one. But not until after the move!

Also, easy countries not a huge problem, as I can cover most if needed πŸ˜‰
I may not be playing, but I have made myself a copy of the SS and intend to go through a few that are on my TBR for those in solidarity, time permitting 😁

Melindam | 8375 comments This is what I could do...

Genghis Khan (Mongolia)
1. 651+
2. takes place in Central Asia (Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan) or Mongolia
3. MPG War
4. character goes horse riding
5. takes place in a cold climate (your interpretation)

message 3567: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Grabbed 1, 3 & 4 and the mountainous location from the previous monster with upcoming books 😁

Enjoy your world travels Sammy! I need to look at the SS and see where I might be able to fill in some gaps.

message 3574: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I have been! There have been some great ones, including a Hungarian one Mel pointed me towards - The Door by Magda SzabΓ³ . That has one of the most memorable characters I've come across to date!

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I don't have those, but do have Bulgaria and albania coming up. Want to swap monsters with your Egypt book? Or does anyone have any of these coming up?

message 3580: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I have DR Congo, Uganda and Monaco coming up.

I'm reading an Albania ATM so Egypt could be switched.

message 3582: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Mel, I just swapped our MPG war books around so I could finish the Chimera. Yours is now in the Genghis Khan section 😁

message 3583: by Sammy (new)

sorry, missed the earlier chats due to GR playing silly buggers with my notifications!

I'm planning on finishing the BOM (Eygpt book) this evening, probably, but happy to be bumped :)

Incidentally, The Mountains Sing - recommend? I think I have it in the depths of my kindle - should I push it up?

Sure!! I won't be starting it for a while.

message 3587: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I enjoyed it, but it could have been better, or maybe didn't quite fit my mood.

It's mostly about the writing in this one. Not much there in the way of story, and the characters were a bit samey.

message 3588: by Melindam (last edited May 21, 2025 04:54AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Can take MAN EATER in title for Maticore or the page count for Vlad as I have finished my DR Congo book.

message 3589: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I'm not gonna get the pagecount until Jun. (650+, yes, lol), so unless anyone else has one brewing, that may be the way to go?

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments After going through hundreds of books in the Plus catalogue, I finally found one with a knife on the cover. It's probably going to be awful, but I would really like that monster dealt with πŸ˜†

Thank you Sammy!

Feels overoptimistic to describe London as a cold climate! Is the closest my current 2 reads would get to working.

message 3599: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Welp, it was indeed pretty pants. But also very short, so yay for that!

Returning to the Paladin book and then will roll into the Rutherford.
