Not sure that it's husband's thing or I'd drag him that day for a birthday trip."

Mark Hamill loved it, Sophie. Just saw his post on Bluesky about it. ;)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Definitely not my hubby's thing. I always have to go by myself to things like that, or with a friend if it's local.

Unfortunately it does make it trickier to justify the expense if it's "just for me"...

That does complicate things, especially if it involves an overnight stay.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Dang it! just finished one at 666 pages! 😭

Are we sure Judith someone isn't messing with us and has snuck in and changed all the page counts to 500+ in our SS? 😂

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Argh! Why didn't I spin an hour ago!

message 3308: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I was more upset about it being 16 pages too many! 😂

message 3309: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments also, what's with all these MCs getting lost all of a sudden? we need 2 of them now!

message 3310: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Need to read my current books and then try to find ones that may fit somewhere.

Beginning of next week the March UNO cards will be released as well.

message 3311: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Yay! this will help with my end of month planning! 😁

Yeah that's not something that I've come across much.

Maybe we need to teach them and the monsters to map read.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Sophie wrote: "Maybe we need to teach them and the monsters to map read."

😂

How would we feel about someone whose ship was lost at sea (and then having to find their way to where they were going) for being lost?

Too stretchy? If ok, Words of Radiance will cover that task too 😁

message 3314: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments For me that covers being lost. :)

I've got 1, 3 - will keep an eye out for shrimp

message 3322: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Grabbing a quick re-read for the farming task, because that one is NOT going to come up organically 😆

message 3323: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments 😆

Not really.

message 3324: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Nope, that's not a frequent tag. Anna Karenina is one of the books that springs to mind and I'm not up for a reread!

Small Town, Big Magic (Witchlore, #1) by Hazel Beck is my next one to cover the wombat title

message 3325: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments And that's the farm done!

My next read is for my maze, because I've been on the current one an embarrassingly long time! 😆

message 3326: by Dominomaj (new)

Dominomaj | 42 comments The cover doesn't show well, but I am re-reading Óz, a nagy varázsló by L. Frank Baum . It has (mini) shoes on the cover and Dorothy gets lost. 😊

message 3327: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Looks good! 😁

message 3328: by Melindam (last edited Feb 28, 2025 03:14AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments So,

I'm (FINALLY!!!!) listening to Rivers of London and (mostly) loving it.

I told Sophie that for some reason as soon as Nightingale stepped onto the scene I picture him as David Bowie and it's indelible from my mind. ;)

Plus, is it me or the welcome echoes of Terry Pratchett (you know, the Bow Street Runners and other stuff, and the irony... definitely the irony, though not the same, of course!) are truly around?

(I just wish Peter Grant wasn't tripping himself up all the time some action is required. Somehow I see why he was originally headed for the Paperwork Pushing Unit. I don't wish for superman, just getting things done right occasionally even if he's just a wizard in training.)

message 3329: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Oddly, that seems to be one of those books for me that I think I would prefer in print (which is becoming a thing with most fantasy, actually!). Not that I don't love the narrator, but I really struggled to keep focussed with that one, and print sometimes helps with that.

message 3330: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Oh, and I will be finishing a monster size book either tomorrow or the day after, so now is the time to spin a 650+ (so naturally expecting 100-150 range!)😆

I'm actually planning to buy the next one on kindle, to test how it's working that way, plus the price os teally low. But not today in solidarity with the don't buy stuff day across the pond (I'm following Stephen King on Bluesky and that's how I learned about it.

message 3332: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Lily Weatherwax

1 200-299
2 Story features sisters
3 Witch character in the story
4 mirror/reflective surface on the cover
5 A character uses an alias

message 3333: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Actually the book I'll finish soon covers all except reflective surface.

message 3334: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Nice!

We ok with the water in this being a reflective surface?

Maurice and Maralyn An Extraordinary True Story of Love, Shipwreck and Survival by Sophie Elmhirst

Currently reflecting light, but water in general is pretty famously reflective...

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Chased off that pesky Weatherwax woman, got something even scarier in return...

The Auditors

1 350-450
2 Grey cover (>50%)
3 Character likes order
4 Author initials found in REALITY
5 APOCALYPSE in text

message 3342: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments My current read covers #1, and maybe #3?

It also has apocalypse, but not in the story... It's in one of the "Praise for TJ Klune" bits at the start of the book.

I'm guessing that's a no-go, as not part of the story.

I finally finished Under Heaven, and thus The Cunning Man.
In the flush of excitement I did a silly thing, and respun....

On the plus side: it's new.
On the down side....

3 Set in Africa or South America (>50%)

I'm off to think hard about the error of my ways!

Melindam | 8375 comments Maybe the reason I'm unwilling to finish KD 6 is b/c I've developed a spin-phobia. 🤭

message 3346: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments The Witness for the Dead (The Cemeteries of Amalo, #1) by Katherine Addison

Would this be OK for vine-like object?

message 3347: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I have a few chunky ones coming up. Lemme go check page counts...

message 3348: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I grabbed #1 & #2 - Not reading it until nearer the end of the month though! (it's due for another challenge week 3, I believe)

message 3349: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Also coming up this month are a 656 and a 536 in that same week, so don't be scared to spin 😆

They look like vines to me... Doesn't say anywhere they need to be living ones! 😉
