message 2908: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments If we're ok with around half the book being in spain, I'll have one in a week to 10 days-ish 😊

message 2909: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I'm more than OK. 🥰

message 2910: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I've very OK with that too!

message 2911: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Absolutely ok with that!

New monster spun:
Dementors

250-300
Faceless person on cover
"tors" (in order) in title or series name
"soul-sucking" in text
Book series contains a .5

I've got a cloak or cape on the cover: Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive, #2) by Brandon Sanderson - I just need to get on and read it!

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
The Ballad of Smallhope and Pennyroyal by Jodi Taylor

would this count as a faceless person?

message 2913: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Yes, definitely faceless.

message 2914: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
so annoying it's not in the St Mary's series!

message 2915: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
I did double check that!

message 2916: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments Awesome, I have 2 chunky ones to get through first, but hopefully will be done before the end of next week!

message 2917: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy, I think you have finished your Spain book, right? :)

message 2918: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments yes, will update in a mo. 😁

message 2920: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments James Bond (James Bond)

1 650+
2 MC is a spy
3 "martini" in text
4 7 in publication date (July counts!)
5 part of a series with more than 5 books

message 2921: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments My current book is 720 pages and has a 7 in pub date.

message 2922: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I can cover part of a series with more than 5 and martini in text.

message 2923: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments The martini book looks suspiciously like an admin mini read 😆

message 2924: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments I'm a little vexed that I already re-read Termination Shock this year, because it appears to be the only "environment" book I can find on my shelves.

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
oh! The new Booker winner is tagged environment 11 times. I could get to that in the next week I reckon. but happy to be gazumped

ETA: Orbital

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy wrote: "The martini book looks suspiciously like an admin mini read 😆"

How did you guess? 😅

It is, but not a bad one at that. This series is quite digestible, especially the audiobook versions. 🤭

message 2927: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I don't have any environment books, at least not any that I would consider re-reading right now, so I'm happy to wait.

message 2928: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments Nice find Cat!

It was something to do with the word wallstreet. And also the immediate thought "If asked who would be likely to be reading this book, Mel would not be at the top of the list" 😆

message 2930: by Melindam (last edited Nov 21, 2024 03:33AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments 😅
I've grown old and cynical.

But believe it or not, it's a re-read. 🤭

These books are on-off in the Audible plus catalogue, short enough and snarky enough to make them bearable, I can listen to them at 2.0 speed + I really like the male narrator, Zachary Webber. Also, there's an I-character in all of them.

message 2931: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments After this round is over, I'm finally getting on with the family tree book, I promise.

message 2932: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments Hey, I'm not judging, it's just not the first kind of book I'd have expected from you 😁

I've been reading quite a few of those kind of books over the past year or so purely because they have been narrated by Aiden Snow and I'm addicted to his voice 😆

I know! You were just teasing and it's fine. And in my turn I was trying to say that this series is really OK, despite not being my first choice. 🥰

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I might bump you Mel!
Just started a China book to find a beautiful family tree....

message 2935: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Awesome! By all means. :))

message 2936: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I pushed Mel out of the family tree slot, finished off the Dragon King.

spun us a Greek:

Empusa
1 100 to 125
2 takes place in the suburbs
3 character is a bully (your interpretation)
4 sandals on cover (flip-flops/thongs accepted)
5 MC owns a cow or dog

message 2937: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments Dang, my shortest is 157 pages.

message 2938: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I bumped Sophie's faceless, finished the Dementors with one final book and spun us

Judoon
1 100 to 175
2 MC is in law enforcement or equivalent
3 Stars on cover
4 "hospital" in text
5 First book in a series

message 2939: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Wow, where did you find "soul-sucking"?!

I think I hate that task the most, lol.

message 2940: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
It popped up in my office romance / human/monster smut! The Gargoyle from General Management

I was very pleased, and had no compunctions about pushing Sophie out so we could get shot of the Dementors!

message 2941: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Hear! Hear!

:D

message 2942: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments Talk about a task that does what it says! 😆 Nice find Cat!

message 2943: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments MC is a spy - what do we think about Thomas Cromwell running a ring of spies? One step too far removed?

message 2944: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I think that's one step too removed :(

message 2945: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Thought so, but was worth a try. :)

message 2946: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Thanks Cat!

Cloak on cover is finished so here is our replacement.

Dios
200-299
features a religious figure (priest, rabbi, monk, etc.)
book has a significant character who is over 70 years old
the word VEGETARIAN in the text
something shaped like a pyramid or triangle on the cover

message 2947: by Melindam (last edited Dec 01, 2024 04:22AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I'll be moving my Thomas Cromwell book there to claim religious figure + siginificant character over 70. Just finished.

message 2948: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments And Bond is now holed up somewhere with his latest conquest, so instead we have:

Protomolecule (Expanse)

1 450+
2 Form of hivemind in the book
3 Tagged "Series-to-read" at least 10 times - must be new to you series
4 "microorganism" or "microbe" in text
5 A book or series that has been made into a graphic novel

message 2949: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Ahhh, my Emerald Blaze would have covered hive-mind nicely if I haven't finished already..... sigh.

message 2950: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments I may grab the next expanse book for my trip to Bristol this weekend. Can't be certain it'll work, but it'll be a good read either way 😁
