That's some really helpful research on the heraldic beasts - thanks Domi!

Finished the wastelands book, and spun a literary:

Pennywise the Clown
1 350-400
2 Something you are afraid of on cover (your interpretation)
3 Compound word in title
4 Author initials PC or CP (First and last only)
5 Tagged "circus" (5 or more times)

I'm reading The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion (Danielle Cain, #1) by Margaret Killjoy which has a demonic looking stag on the cover which scares me, but it does have lion in the text too. (though I guess Niccolo will have a heraldic beast mentioned too?)

We good with putting Lamb into "scary thing on cover" ?

Cat, you claim the heraldic beast, I won't get to start Niccolo until next w/e when we are back from our travels.

Audiobooks and family time are not a good fit. 😉

Or I'm OK with Lamb as scary....

message 2866: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments It does look pretty terrifying!

Melindam | 8383 comments Just found a book tagged circus 7x on my TBR, but will be some days till I get there.

And Stardust is also tagged 5x with a U-character... hmmmm

message 2868: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments I had a look too, and I have two, but both are print copies and I have the next 3 weeks or so of print books already lined up...

Even all the circus books I have already read are print copies. Guess I don't like circus audio 😆

I don't like them much either way... 😅

This, I have on kindle, so maybe I can take it ahead along with the upcoming BOM.

A Curious Beginning

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments I enjoyed Water for Elephants a lot, and also the first of the Caraval books (the other two less so!).

Stephen King's Joyland is also pretty good (crime, not horror, also themepark not circus, but that hasn't stopped people tagging it as such 😆)

I finished one, spun FIctional Humans, and got our last one!

2 Set in at the Pacific Northwest
3 Two of something on the cover
4 Main antagonist is sneaky
5 MC is in law enforcement or equivalent

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments Ugh. I've been particuarly useless these past few days, and it seems the trend continues, lol.

As of today I have one team/partner challenge less to worry about (only doing 4 now 😆), so options open up a smidge.

I'm kinda looking forward to the end of Nov when all I'll have to worry about is the last bit of wheel! (until it all starts up again in Feb! 😂)

message 2877: by Melindam (new)

I enjoyed it even if I wanted to throttle many of the characters! Was a realistic, fun romp thru a modern dating in the . context of family interest story. Definitely recommend.

I'm glad you did. I'm listening to the audiobook read by a British-Nigerian (?) actress and I'm enjoying the experience and also the insight into this community, but I'm not that much into the story in general so far.

Melindam | 8383 comments Domi and I started reading Danny the Champion of the World yesterday and we are loving it. 😊

My husband managed to get hold of it in a 2nd-hand bookshop (Roald Dahl books are soooo hard to get for some reason even if they have been translated and there are quite a few that have been).

The locations of Yinka are relatively near to me. I'm up the road from Peckham (which is very definitely suffering from gentrification!), so it's always fun to see the local eye view, with the additional layer of different culture too.

Danny is all sorts of fabulous!

I was looking after my youngest nibling this week, who's currently fascinated by Ghostbusters. So we played that a lot! And I'm able to confirm that there is such a thing as too much Ghostbuster theme song, and I reached it on Sunday morning, with half the day still to go!

LOL, there must have been sth in the air. Domi wore his ghostbuster hoodie on Saturday and played the song nonstop and danced to it with my friend's daughters who came to visit. 😅

Melindam | 8383 comments Question: Wikipedia says that a broader concept of the "Pacific Northwest" includes Northern California and western Montana and Alaska, besides "Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and the Canadian province of British Columbia".

If we are OK with that, my current read is set in Palo Alto, San Francisco and some redwood forest region.

message 2889: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Pennywise has slunk away.

Cherufe

1. 350 to 450
2. Tagged Indigenous (at least 10 times)
3. Title starts with a letter in MAPUCHE
4. A sacrifice is important to plot (your interpretation)
5. Hot object (not person) on cover, can be fire

why don't we have tagged Spain in the gardening mini, eh?!

I'm pressing on with Saint Death's Daughter.
Just started Fire From Heaven - which could work for powerful person - it's about Alexander the Great.
but sadly no cloak on cover :(

I have found another set-in-Spain book, just don't know when I can get to it as it's a shortie!

I listened to the audio (author read) which was great - it brought it even closer. A bit like Alice Roberts' - it feels chatty with friends.

So pleased you are enjoying!

message 2899: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments I've been contemplating buying the audio as an accompaniement, to bridge over the bits when I'm not able to do the kindle-reading, so you jyst made another strong case of it :D
