I have just started listening to this book The Film Music of John Williams: Reviving Hollywood's Classical Style as currently it's included in the audiblecom Plus catalogue. I can't say for sure at this point, there are bound to be violins or pianos mentioned (?). But I thought even without those you may find this book interesting. I'm enjoying it very much. 😊

I used to listen to a lot of soundtracks. He and Zimerman have some iconic themes.

The first part of the book is a historical overview of Hollywood film music, slightly academical and mostly from a film studies perspective, but I find it very, very interesting. I added it to my Audible to-listen-list on a whim, but I'm very glad I did. :)

Yes, though Zimmerman (I love!) does have a habit of self-plagarising... The Gladiator and Pirates of the Carribean themes are almost identical!

I walked past John Williams once at the O2 (he was doing the live Star Wars music thing, which was awesome!). It was one of those moments where I did a double-take and thought "hey, wait a minute, that was..." and he was gone in the crowd 😆

Just been listening to LOTR soundtrack this morning. Joe has just started listening to the Hobbit, and after a rocky start he's really enjoying it. The songs have been his favourite bit so far.

I wouldn't let him watch An Unexpected Journey yet, b/c I know he'd get nightmares, but showed some bits from the beginning (Bilbo - Gandalf meeting, the Dwarves coming to Bag End, the singing ...) to get him interested in reading the book. :)

One of the saddest times of my life was when neither of my children showed even the tiniest bit of interest in reading the Tolkien books at any point.

But at least my son and I have an annual tradition of watching LotR around my birthday together 😁

We watched HP 1 a year ago, but I'm regretting it a bit, because he was really afraid of the scary bits. He's like me with a low threshold of scare-tolerance. 😊

I can manage tenor and mezzo soprano (used to be soprano, but age has killed that!) but my break is in a super awkward spot, which makes alto difficult 😆
