It is however v epic at over 1000 pages.

I've just finished a The Road Trip which has absinthe in the text (because of course it does...)

Dungeon Dimensions

2 author initials found in THINGS
3 a book entirely without magic (your interpretation)
4 book with an alliterative title
5 the word 'wastelands' found in the text or title

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy,

have bumped your Trollope book as told. :)

I have just finished a book that fits the category and can spin for a new monster.

message 2807: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Whomping Willow

1. 651+
2. Body of water on the cover
3. Two words starting with the same letter in title
4. Author uses initials
5. A form of transportation breaks or is destroyed

message 2808: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy

have put your book down for the page count.

message 2809: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Perfect!

I'm reading that one now and will prob finish tomorrow.

message 2810: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Are we good to use "To Lie with Lions" as alliterative title or shall it go to "2 words starting with the same letter"?

message 2811: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
2 words, I think. alliterative is all or at least the majority being the same letter in my book

message 2812: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
oh! have I put Crucible of Chaos in anywhere? would the team be OK with that as alliterative?

message 2813: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I don't remember seeing it, Cat.

message 2814: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments and I'm totally ok with used as alliterative title.

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy,

I have just started listening to this book The Film Music of John Williams: Reviving Hollywood's Classical Style as currently it's included in the audiblecom Plus catalogue. I can't say for sure at this point, there are bound to be violins or pianos mentioned (?). But I thought even without those you may find this book interesting. I'm enjoying it very much. 😊

Update: violin and piano are both mentioned

I've just snagged the "water on cover"
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1) by Michelle Hodkin
they are floating in water - surface visible at the top :)

John Williams is the Man!

Thanks for the heads-up, have added it to my library!

I used to listen to a lot of soundtracks. He and Zimerman have some iconic themes.

message 2820: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments The first part of the book is a historical overview of Hollywood film music, slightly academical and mostly from a film studies perspective, but I find it very, very interesting. I added it to my Audible to-listen-list on a whim, but I'm very glad I did. :)

message 2821: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Yes, though Zimmerman (I love!) does have a habit of self-plagarising... The Gladiator and Pirates of the Carribean themes are almost identical!

I walked past John Williams once at the O2 (he was doing the live Star Wars music thing, which was awesome!). It was one of those moments where I did a double-take and thought "hey, wait a minute, that was..." and he was gone in the crowd 😆

Does the audio book include samples of the music? Or is it only the text.

OOOHHHH, doing some fangirling dance.... :))

Also, let's not forget about Howard Shore and LOTR, if you please. ;)

It's text only, it's a kind of study-analysis-overview, not a biography.

Doesn't even need to be mentioned. A given! 😉

Sammy - I wouldn't have a clue what the composers look like! Well spotted.

Just been listening to LOTR soundtrack this morning. Joe has just started listening to the Hobbit, and after a rocky start he's really enjoying it. The songs have been his favourite bit so far.

Domi loves the Dwarves' song, Misty mountain and is tracking all possible renditions on youtube. :D

Also, the Ed Sheeran song. ;)

aaand.. what I call "the clearing up song" ;)

message 2830: by Melindam (last edited Oct 23, 2024 03:17AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I wouldn't let him watch An Unexpected Journey yet, b/c I know he'd get nightmares, but showed some bits from the beginning (Bilbo - Gandalf meeting, the Dwarves coming to Bag End, the singing ...) to get him interested in reading the book. :)

message 2831: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments One of the saddest times of my life was when neither of my children showed even the tiniest bit of interest in reading the Tolkien books at any point.

But at least my son and I have an annual tradition of watching LotR around my birthday together 😁

The audio on Audible by Andy Serkis has singing and music which is working in our house.

I'm holding off on the films for another few years (same with HP) but I know it will come.

As soon as you said super bassy, I should have known Tim was involved. Can't believe how low that man goes.

message 2834: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments We watched HP 1 a year ago, but I'm regretting it a bit, because he was really afraid of the scary bits. He's like me with a low threshold of scare-tolerance. 😊

message 2835: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Tim can go lower than human beings can hear. Totally insane. He can also sing high tenor... I want a vocal range like his when I grow up!

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Joe doesn't scare easily so I think the first few would be fine, but not the later ones and he's completionist with films. So need to wait until he can cope with 7 before starting 1.

Sammy wrote: "Tim can go lower than human beings can hear. Totally insane. He can also sing high tenor... I want a vocal range like his when I grow up!"

That's insane! I managed a v small range and have to be ok with that.

message 2838: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I can manage tenor and mezzo soprano (used to be soprano, but age has killed that!) but my break is in a super awkward spot, which makes alto difficult 😆

message 2839: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Sounds exactly like mine! Can't hit the highs of soprano but can't sink through alto range well.

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy,

I have put your "The Final Girl Support Group" also to the task of 2 words in title starting with the same letter, as I'll be some time starting mine.

I have claimed orange cover as it's a U-title as well. :))

To Lie with (L)ions will work for the prune task in the Gardening mini nicely. :))

I found "wasteland" in your Mara Dyer book (amazon look inside).

I have a substitute book with river on cover, if you don't mind the swap. :)

Plus Domi will finish his red cover book today so will spin for a new monster later. ;)

Melindam | 8375 comments For author uses initials, would narrator be also acceptable?

message 2850: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
we can do that swap, for sure!

And I'm not convinced about substituting narrator for author
