Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I've been sitting on Upgrade all year...

I will be grumpius maximus if I don't get to read it during said hypothetical revolving hoop challenge...

message 2552: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments There are definitely a few U-books I'd like to read, too. ;)

message 2553: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Have U alreasy decided on a theme for the "revolving hoop"? :)

We have had vague themes for the challenges for 2025 since about March! Which is earlier than standard but we do try to think a bit in advance.

Melindam | 8375 comments Always useful. 🥰

Melindam | 8375 comments After my cUriosity-detour, returning back to the challenge in hand 😊

If any of you have books that work for "embezzle" in text and/or "any kind of betting in story", I could move my Henry V The Astonishing Rise of England's Greatest Warrior King by Dan Jones for white cover and the page count 350-450. It also works for 5 in page count.

message 2561: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I definitely have betting in my current book, but not sure about embezzle yet.

message 2563: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Yes. :)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
I'm good with that. Seems the same as a lot of the other things we've allowed to count.

message 2565: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments And I've forgotten about a book I have recently finished, which helps us with the Summoning Dark, so I'm going spinning. :)

message 2566: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Yep!

Melindam | 8375 comments Talking about Us... sorry

Cthulhu
1. 450+
2. Two U's in author name (first or last)
3. A cult is important to the plot
4. Retelling that is in conversation with an issue in the original
5. Tagged tentacles at least 1

message 2568: by Melindam (last edited Sep 11, 2024 05:28AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Oh and I just realised that the page count of the Henry V book has been updated to 526 (I swear it was 400-something the last time I checked - possibly they took the hardcover page count for reference first, that's 432), so the page count task is out. 😳

I can stuff Random in Death into the page count @368

message 2572: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Can this be considered monochrome or not really?

are you and Christina in cahoots??!

message 2574: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I have my next 20 books lined up, and none have a 2 U author. I can check the next batch in about 10 days or so if nobody gets there first 😉

Will have a look on my TBR.

I've got several on the go that have 1 U in the author, so close but not actually helpful!

Actually I've found I Know You by LoUise MUllins which also works for my current maze task.

message 2579: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Awesome!

And my other book I'm reading also has betting, and I'll finish it sooner, so I'll swap 'em out 😁

message 2580: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments If we're claiming monochrome as a 2 colour cover (like black & white), would we consider this gold and grey to fit?:

message 2584: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Edward Rochester (Jane Eyre)

1 200 to 299
2 MC gets gaslighted
3 MC is a teaching profession
4 fire important to plot
5 purple cover

message 2585: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Reacher Gilt was embezzled away.

Dios

1. 200-299
2. features a religious figure (priest, rabbi, monk, etc.)
3. book has a significant character who is over 70 years old
4. the word VEGETARIAN in the text
5. something shaped like a pyramid or triangle on the cover

message 2586: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I grabbed religious figure, but my book may do for significant septuagenarian character - have to wait and see.

message 2587: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Dang! My current book just mentioned vegan 🫤

message 2588: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments although I can take the sinificant character over 70, as the MC is Queen Elizabeth.

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
I can take MC is gaslit as Charmian is during Memento Mori. Also works for page length (224). Would also work for character over 70 if we can use Sammy's somewhere else as well.

message 2594: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I've unexpectedly come across a vegetarian!

How about using the coloured triangles?

message 2597: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I remember those! 😆

message 2598: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Oh dear, Duplo meltdown IS serious.

Well done with the triangles, Sammy. :)

message 2599: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I'm waiting for the next set of tasks in another challenge which favours long books, so once those come through I may have a 500+ lined up if no-one else grabs that one.

message 2600: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy, does either your Queen or Miss Brodie book feature a religious figure?
If so, I can remove my Crusaders book from there. If not, it can stay there and I'll finish it eventually. :))
