Ooof ok... Will see what I've got.

At least weapon on cover is doable - would we count tailor's scissors as a weapon (I am for book games).

Tailor of Panama will also cover Tiger

Melindam | 8381 comments Once I get through my mini books + backroom bom, I will continue with Niccolo 3 that would cover the page task and possibly fire, but will see. :)

Sammy may also have a 500+ book or 3 up her sleeve. ;)

totally count tailor's scissors as a weapon. pretty sure Midsomer Murders have had them as a murder implement!

message 2059: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8381 comments Yes for scissors as weapon. :)

In that case I've got 3 and 5. It's feeling long to me but is only 436p.

Sarah's finding it long too. I quite enjoyed it - I thought it was sneakily funny, and I liked understanding the characters and their motivation and development.

My problem may just be that my reading time this week has been minimal. When I read it I find Pendel intriguing and can't wait to find out how his fluence ends up causing mayhem in Panama.

Melindam | 8381 comments I am struggling with Love in the Time of Cholera, too, now I have reached the 170 pages mark, but I'll persevere.

I have reached the part where the atmospheric writing is all good and dandy, but in this case it's just not enough any more and the characters and "plot" fails to interest me.

On the other hand, it justifies the 30 years it took me to get around reading it. 😅

message 2064: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Most of my higher page number books are actually over 700, but I can probably squeeze a 500 in 😉

message 2065: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Jane Eyre works, and covers fire too.

message 2066: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8381 comments Apparently Jane Eyre was a banned book in China (according to Wikipedia). :))

message 2067: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Unfortunately that's the wrong monster, lol.

if only it was set in Korea!

Just been through my tbr. I have an absolute ton of Japan, and a few china. also a lot of Asia-inspired fantasy settings, but zip, zilch, nada in Korea. read them all during UNO! lol.

Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 wasn't bad.

I've got Love in the Big City hanging around since last Towers I think. though appetite to tackle it immediately is low. maybe tail end of next week?

Melindam | 8381 comments In the 2nd half of June, I may get to listen to Crying in H-Mart for the Korea task, but won't be in a hurry. :)

Melindam | 8381 comments I am re-listening to and thoroughly enjoying Cold Comfort Farm.... and hadn't remembered that there is a U-character (the despicable Urk). lol

message 2073: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I had that one in mind as a last-minute possibility if we needed it for the mini, but we're all good, so I can save it for that U 😆

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments George and Martha have been told to take a hike. moving on to:

Tom & Daisy Buchannan (The Great Gatsby)

1 500 to 650
2 MC name is also a plant (first, last, nickname)
3 takes place during the Jazz Age
4 author pulblishes including their middle name
5 MC kills someone

message 2076: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I've a 648 pager coming up, and I'm guessing there's a good chance the MC will kill someone...

message 2077: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Are we counting an initial for middle name, or does it have to be the full name?

message 2078: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8381 comments I would count it in obviously ;), but don't know about Cat & Sophie.

Melindam | 8381 comments And Audible sales are on.... where is my mythical (as in noone has seen it, though they often heard about it ;) self-denial?
Nowhere, that's where.... lol

Curse them, sadly they know how to play me with an email saying "all books on your wishlist are on sale".

Normally, books on my wishlist are hardly ever on sale (I flatter myself that's because of my distinguished taste -giggles), so of course I had to rush in and check. Of course their idea of sale doesn't always coincide with mine, but this time there are a lot of them.

My mum and I for a chilled time :)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments There are never books on my wishlist on sale. I suspect audible specifically excludes them from sales 😆

Sounds great! Have a lovely time.

For a while I was afraid that you'd be going to the murderous Isle of Man. 😉

Melindam | 8381 comments Sammy,

I just bought The Life and Loves of a He Devil by Graham Norton and Mrs Bradshaw's Handbook by Terry Pratchett among some other stuff.

This The Burgundians A Vanished Empire A History of 1111 Years and One Day by Bart Van Loo corresponds nicely with my reading the Niccolo series. :)

message 2089: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I enjoyed the Graham Norton. Nothing very deep, but entertaining. 😁

And Pratchett is always a good thing!

Melindam | 8381 comments I am claiming epistolary novel, tho' it may be pushing it a bit.

A Soldier's Legacy by Heinrich Böll is basically one long letter that the fictional author and MC writes to the brother of his former, dead commander.

Charybdis
1 651+
2 Author's name (first or last) starts with one of the letters in POOL
3 MC is forced to make a hard choice (your interpretation)
4 fig in title or text
5 characters take a boat trip (of any type)

message 2095: by Melindam (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Welp... Tom and Daisy didn't take long. Instead we have:

Devil's Snare

1 100 to 175
2 A character can't handle light/sunlight (your interpretation)
3 Devil or synonym in title
4 Title starts with a letter in SNARE
5 Blue or black cover (>50%)

message 2100: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I'm currently working on one that has an author that starts with a P, and also has fig in the text, so will grab that.

it's also 1000+ pages, so if for whatever reason you don't get on with yours, it can cover that slot too Mel.
