I finished Bullet Train, but not near a laptop for easy respin, if someone else wants to do the honours

Started The Tailor of Panama by John le Carré , which I think is red cover?

message 2003: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments Red for sure :)

message 2004: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments Bergmonch

1. 200 to 299
2. Mountains on cover
3. Stubborn MC (your interpretation)
4. "pit" in text
5. Tagged Short (at least 10 times)

message 2005: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments Sammy,

Just sayin' that should you decide to read Legends & Lattes b/c of horns, it's also tagged short 16x. :)

message 2006: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments awesome. I'm just listening to Faust right now, and the titular character is definitely stubborn. I feel "pit" is also likely to pop up... Will check when I am at my computer

I've just finished Salt and Broom this morning which works for the page count and stubborn. Unfortunately no mountains or pit and while it felt short to me, no one else seems to have tagged it that way.

Happy birthday Sonia!

message 2009: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments Surprisingly, no pits in Faust as far as I can tell. It certainly isn't short either 😆

message 2010: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments No "pit" in Starling House or the other book that shall not even be named (Idaho setting). :D

message 2011: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments Ohh, I have a pit in my Idaho book! 😁

message 2012: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments I am reading my DQ part of Starling House and I find I am enjoying it more than the start. Hope it will keep up. :)

How bad was that Idaho book, Mel??

message 2014: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments My current thinking is, everyone loved 10 thousand doors and I hated it, so if everyone hates this one, maybe I'll love it... 😆

I'll make myself pick it up once I've finished my current print book, which will likely be tomorrow.

message 2015: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments I'm reading Pines for Idaho, which I'm loving!

message 2016: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments :D

I hated it, b/c of one f my pet peeves: forced romcom with the characters getting from one cringey situ into the next surrounded by their endless monologue. But it was only 158 pages and a kindle freebie, so .... I survived.

Cat (cat_uk) | 10127 comments Mod
and a new one:

George & Martha (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf)
1 200 to 299
2 MC is married
3 character name is also a type of animal (first, last, nickname)
4 tagged 'classic' at least 10 times
5 made into movie or TV show

message 2018: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments Sammy,

From tomorrow, I am fine now to start on Love in the Time of Cholera. :)

message 2019: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments Awesome!

I'll squeeze in one more before then. do we have a thread yet, or do we need to set one up?

message 2020: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments We need to set one up, but I can do it, if our Mods are OK with that. ;)

message 2021: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments Awesome. could you drop the link onto our team thread when you do? Jenny, Angie and Keli are all reading it too. 😁

Melindam | 8388 comments "character name is also a type of animal"

Starling House, as a "sentient" being and a kind of character.. can it work for the task?

If not, then I have The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society coming up soon which seems to have a character called Charles Lamb (??)

message 2024: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10127 comments Mod
if you are happy to defend the sentient house as a character, not going to argue!

message 2025: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments There's a character named Arthur Starling too, according to the blurb?

message 2026: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments Sammy wrote: "There's a character named Arthur Starling too, according to the blurb?"

Facepalm... yes.. of course.. all wardens of the house are get to called Starling... stoopid Mel

message 2027: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments Found a short "deep" book in the plus catalogue i can squeeze in for that task, and my current book has mountains on the cover.

message 2028: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments Yaay

message 2029: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments Sammy,

I have added the read date for your GGM book, but leave spinning to you. 😊

message 2030: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments Thanks Mel! was just finishing something up, and will go do so now 😁

message 2031: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments Chasing that Chupacabra, but failed to catch it ☹️

Snipe

1 100 to 175
2 bird on cover
3 MC is looking for something/someone
4 "fool's errand" or "wild-goose chase" in text
5 Goodreads rating < 3.6

message 2032: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments My GGM works for bird on cover, maybe looking for something/one too.

message 2033: by Melindam (last edited Jun 06, 2024 12:22AM) (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments The upcoming BackRoom BOM book has wild-goose chase in text, so I am claiming that one as well. :)

the BOMs and our wheel spins have been surprisingly cooperative lately :)

🤭 We are allowed to be lucky and in-synch sometimes.

Shhhhh! don't say that too loudly, the wheel gods will hear you!

message 2037: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments I've got one that works for short. have some that will work for the low rating task too, but will be a few days before I get to it.

message 2038: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments We've got time. ;)

message 2039: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments That we do. None of them work for the mini, hence the wait 😆

The short one does, so will be cranking that one out this evening.

Thanks.

Sorry. It has been kind of a busy week. I managed to vote on the thirst games... and that's it.

message 2041: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments At least you have your priorities right 😉

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
If we could create at least 2 hours more in the day for gr and reading that would be ideal.

message 2043: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments Yes please!

I spent most of today wiring up a couple of control panels for hubby. It's mindless work and I would normally be able to listen to an audio book while I worked, but today he was working on something else right beside me, and apparently having my headphones on instead of interacting with him would have been "rude". I mean really! 😆

message 2044: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8388 comments Family members expecting you to listen to them instead of your audiobooks are sooo inconsiderate. (giggles)

message 2045: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments Definitely! 😆

message 2046: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Personally I'm of the opinion that it is ruder that he stopped you reading/listening.

message 2047: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments See, that's what I thought! 😆

message 2049: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13026 comments Bergmonch begone!

Albert and Celie (The Color Purple)

1 200 to 299
2 color word in title
3 epistolary novel
4 made into a movie or TV show
5 on a banned book list

message 2050: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I had to google what the heck is an epistolary novel... And the only one I know of is Bram Stoker's Dracula... and I already read it twice. That's enough for a lifetime!
