I'll settle for distracted by Nana in that case! Been making Easter hats and baskets this afternoon after melting chocolate earlier to put in moulds. I'm exhausted!

Ugh, don't they know to leave you alone!

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments I don't envy you all that! Kinda glad my kids have outgrown it all! lol.

Having said that, We're going to be ripping out our kitchen and putting in a new one in a couple of weeks time. was going to be May, but the kitchen place was having a sale and we could get the units delivered next week and save over £700. So we're moving the schedule up!

So the next week or so I'm going to be spending pretty much all my time in the kitchen batch-cooking stuff we can freeze and microwave for our dinner for the two weeks or so we won't have a kitchen. UGH!

Melindam | 8383 comments Silence is golden, except when you have kids. In that case, it's just suspicious. :D

Teehee! so very true! we always used to wonder what they were up to when they were quiet 😂

message 1605: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Sammy, I feel for you.

message 1606: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments I still remember the time 2 years ago when we moved from one space to the next as everything got repainted. yikes

No that's no fun - will be worth it once it is done though.

We're waiting on dates from builders for a loft extension. I'm not looking forward to the chaos but at least I'll still have a kitchen and a bathroom.

message 1608: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments Yeah, when hubby re-did the bathroom a couple of years ago the offspring and I went to stay with my parents for the week 😆

Hope your loft goes ok! I'm really hoping our new place will have one of those too! lol.

Doomsday Book by Connie Willis is brilliant, though heavier than Dog, mostly in that it has plague epidemics going on. Foreground is the relationships forged in adversity. But also broadly more straightforward.
Her Blitz books also excellent!

message 1610: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments I am going to read them all. :))

Book 1 is also included for free in the audible+ catalogue, added already to my library, but will see whether I'll like the narrator or not.

Melindam | 8383 comments O'Brian was sent away, and we have

The Master/Missy again

1. 200 to 299
2. Character is a doctor (MD, DVM, PhD etc.)
3. Author initials (all) in MASTER
4. Author or MC is trans or non-binary
5. Tagged Time Travel (10 minimum)

message 1612: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments So, we need 2 time travel books, 1 for Sammy and 1 for Sophie. :)

message 1613: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments Awesome! I can take 2 and 5 😁

message 1614: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments Or swap it out with Sophie's, as hers will also fit both. I probably won't finish mine until Monday, or tomorrow eve at the earliest, so we have plenty of time to move stuff around if needed.

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Shuffle however needed depending on when we both finish!

message 1616: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments Sent the Weeping angels to the 14th century and spun the wheel for:

Snipe

1 100 to 175
2 bird on cover
3 MC is looking for something/someone
4 "fool's errand" or "wild-goose chase" in text
5 Goodreads rating < 3.6

And I just so happen to be starting one with a bird on the cover 😁

message 1617: by Sammy (last edited Mar 31, 2024 01:03PM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments also the whole plot is someone looking for someone!

message 1618: by Melindam (last edited Apr 01, 2024 01:17AM) (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments For once, I can take the low page count. Will finish one after the UNO countdown.

message 1619: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments And in case you didn't know until now that I am terrible at maths: for task 5 does GR rating need to be below 3.6?

message 1620: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Melindam wrote: "And in case you didn't know until now that I am terrible at maths: for task 5 does GR rating need to be below 3.6?"

Yes.

We have a couple of handy tricks. One of them being the "open part" is always on the higher number side.

message 1621: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Thank you, I keep losing this one. 😅

message 1622: by Melindam (last edited Apr 01, 2024 01:10AM) (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments I found 1 book for fool's errand, but it's a 600+ pager, so if someone finds a quicker read, just delete mine.

message 1623: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments No problem. I claimed the between 200 and 299 page count with my current book, BUT, I remember that one of the Four Bears Constructions books features a trans MC, and it's 236 pages. So, I'm going to tackle that one first, since Emrys and Julius are annoying me at the moment and I need to take a break.

I love Michele Notaro, but she tends to get a little heavy on the angsty part.

message 1624: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments @Cat: you know that 3.88 is higher than 3.6, right?

message 1625: by Cat (last edited Apr 02, 2024 09:06AM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I do. did I misread the task??

yup! in my defence: I was tired!

message 1626: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
can we use one that is exactly 3.6?

message 1627: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments I'd say yes :)

message 1628: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Sure.

message 1629: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments I bumped your wild goose chase book Mel. To Say Nothing of the Dog covers that one, and I just finished it. 😁

message 1630: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments Which takes care of the Snipe.
Next up:

Zygons

message 1631: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments Awesome!

message 1634: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Good for the wild-goose chase, Sammy.

Currently listening to The Reluctant Widow that works for UNIT in title

message 1635: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Widow also works for page count

message 1636: by Sonia (last edited Apr 03, 2024 07:11AM) (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments My The Witch's Blood was published in September 30, 2019, so, I'm stealing #4

The Hounds have returned to Baskervilles.

The Harpies are singing instead

100 to 125

contains a chase (car chase, foot chase, etc)
character is royalty

message 1638: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
My current audio can cover feast and royalty but will take a week to finish so if other people want to jump in they can.

message 1639: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments My current has royalty and chase, not sure about the rest yet

message 1642: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments Of course I finished a school one yesterday... *sigh*

message 1643: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Oh, is it the first time, we have the Hot Prof? :)

message 1644: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments I will finish my book for the Dr Who task by tomorrow and then will see if I can find sth.

message 1645: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Filled the 2 short-pages-spots, but they are up for grabs with usual who-is-quicker proviso. :) My kindle tells me that one of them has the word dinosaur, but when I search for the actual page, it says the book hasn't been indexed yet. So I'll only find out once I start reading.

Yay for Hot Prof's eventual arrival!

My spin seems to have been listening to the Next Challenge thread.

“Black” Jack Randall (Outlander)
1 651+
2 A character is abusive
3 MPG Historical Fiction
4 "plaid" in text
5 Black cover

message 1647: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Dang, one of my next books is 641 pages :(

message 1648: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments The wheel always knows...

nothing 600+ lined up for this week. I'll be finishing a 500 tonight or tomorrow morning, but that's not as helpful, lol.

message 1649: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Hot Prof has been transported to another Dino Island,

Hello Mr Big and Carrie Bradshaw:

1. 500 to 650
2. MC is a journalist
3. takes place in New York City
4. MC is selfish (your interpretation)
5. core friend group central to story

message 1650: by Melindam (last edited Apr 12, 2024 12:17AM) (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments With A Court of Mist and Fury I could cover

page count, selfish MC (definitely MY interpretation, all those bunch of Faes including MC are selfish as hell -why is the word even have to be written with capital F?! ;)- and core friend group, but if you are near finishing anything that's fitting, just feel free, to remove my spots. :)
