Presents just don't really register as important with him (he wouldn't be upset if he didn't get any himself), so it's something I have long since resigned myself to.
But one year, when the kids were still young, our daughter got extremely upset when she realised there were no presents for mummy under the tree, so after that I started buying some stuff myself, so she wouldn't feel bad 😆

Awwww
Well, the year hubby had given me a the biggest, most unwieldy hairdryer imaginable for Christmas (at that time I had had short hair for years), which required at least 2 hands to hold, I decided to simply tell him what exactly I want for Xmas and that is that. 😆
Bless your daughter Sammy! It's sweet that she noticed and cared.
And between you and MelM - this is why men are given explicit instructions so often. Not that I'm much better - it's Mr Sophie's birthday in 2 weeks and I'm struggling with ideas.

On one hand, I have it easy, because my husband likes when I am baking a cake for him (nothing fancy, he's the happiest with apple pie :), but otherwise it's very hard to buy him anything, so as I am telling him what I'd like, I'll just ask him about his wishes. Otherwise it would be just throwing money out of the window on presents he doesn't like ...
Practicality just suits us both. 😊
I'm getting him a trolley to move camping equipment that he's asked for - explicit is the way to go,

If he'd asked for it.... VOILA! 🤗

As for people buying me stuff... every member of my family gets lists of books that I want. Different books on each list so I don't end up with multiple copies. Works a treat 😁

I am still struggling with it b/c despite the great subject and thorough research, I think the author utterly fails to hold it all together in a cohesive and interesting way. It's so frustrating and sad.
There are some books that just do that despite have great promise - makes them more disappointing somehow as I normally want to get through them despite not pulling together.

No fun though, and you're right, they're harder to just give up on.

Hana Khan Carries On is finished. Doesn't meet the page count though so we'll still need a 350-450p to replace Hidden Figures.

tell us more about the UNO mini?! should I be reading an epistolary novel? or one in translation?!

what?! I've been 2 days without spotting the SP UNO mini?! good grief, what is my book-challenge life coming to?!

And I have appointments tomorrow and Wednesday that will eat into my reading time too.
*sulk*

Oh dear! THAT is serious!!

It will be published in a day or 2, depending on E's RL. It's her "baby". :)

I'm still alive.
Although the week I was supposed to take off, was turned into 3 days off instead.
And I'm still working today to balance it.
And I'll be off the record doing stuff tomorrow.
What irks me is that it isn't even my project. But, I was glad I could help. Poor QA engineer is still a junior... this project from hell is so twisted, that it would make a nun turn to drink. Anywoo. After it, the kid will turn into a hell of a QA. But. He needed the help. And the ton of pep talks I gave it.
LOL
Tomorrow I shall discover what is this thing called book and reading. You all speak of such unknown things.

Next I'll see what book I can fit on the amusement park one. Or maybe the witches one. One of them shall be read in the next few days. I'm still a bit wonky from all the stress/pressure.
So I might choose to play a few games to decompress instead.

(I know I'm pushing it, sorry, but am listening a set of lectures called Wolves and Werewolves in History and Popular Culture.)

At least you have an excuse for being wonky. For some of us, that's our default setting 😆

Werewolves tend to be very much alive.
Vampires are undead. Zombies are the walking dead. Mummies could be argued to be either, depending on the book and how they're portrayed.
My personal idea of undead: Technically dead, but still corporeal, animated and capable of (relatively) rational thought.
