Melindam | 8375 comments I rearranged my reading a bit, will be reading Tooth and Claw in the 2nd part of March only, so I added Sammy's book for the "multiple of 8 task" as it fits and I am reading 2 separate books that work for "giant critter" and "book from the list" (such a good excuse for a Murderbot relisten! :). Will finish these in a day or 2.

We only need the author initials in SHELOB to be covered. :) (so my previous reply to Sonia IS obviously biased ;)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Cool. I can knock out the SHELOB initials then :D

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Too bad Percy Jackson is only 11/12 y.o. because the TV show is making me want to re-read them, and they go to an amusement park to retrieve Ares's shield on the first book.

If nobody has tackled it by monday, I'll reassess then. Till there, I'm in a mm books only read, sorry :(

message 1355: by Melindam (last edited Mar 05, 2024 01:21AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sonia, I think you can consider yourself booked for the amusement park task. 😉

I for one would be super relieved if that could be covered by someone else. 😍

Yeah, I thought as much once I post it.

You never know what letting books to chance might bring you. But sure. I can't promise to do both though, because after months of steamy books it feels some how wrong, to read middle grade ones

*giggles again*

Melindam | 8375 comments After I finish my current books, I'll have a look at the 14-18 age task.

While I think at least one of the characters, Cecile in Dangerous Liaisons may fit the age, strictly speaking she's not a MC. :(

message 1358: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments The book I started last night has an MC that is 16 😁

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I'm very happy for you to take the amusement park task sonia, but if you find you're not feeling it, let me know and I'll re-read Joyland for that one. It's a good, quick read, and it's been a while, so I can squeeze it in if needed.

(for the non-horror fans: it may be King, but it isn't horror. Coming of age + mystery, but mostly just about people. I do recommend for anyone that doesn't want to read King because they're either horror or 1000 pages long 😉)

message 1361: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Oh I can take on it. If not with Percy, I can re-read InCryptid #7 that is set in an amusement park. Unless someone is reading the incryptid series and didn't know about it.

I need to get back to that universe, and the I's are UNO's friends. Maybe one of my favs will be the trick?

message 1362: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
I keep meaning to start them, so jumping into 7 for the amusement park probably isn't the best for me. If you leave it with me you will be waiting approximately a million years given my current reading pace.

message 1363: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Mojo still proving illusive Sophie? 😞

message 1364: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I've just started a 500+ which I won't finish until tomorrow eve at the earliest (but probably thurs), just in case someone spins another chunky one before then.

After that I'm on a 900-pager for the rest of the week! 😁

Melindam | 8375 comments Shelob has been chased back to its lair.

and the name is BOND, JAMES BOND

1. 650+
2. MC is a spy
3. "martini" in text
4. 7 in publication date (July counts!)
5. part of a series with more than 5 books

message 1366: by Melindam (new)

Oh no!

message 1373: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Nice! I definitely have the 650+ and I'm grabbing war too. I can't remember if there's a storm in the book, but it takes place at sea, so there's a good chance. Vexed that there is no I in the title for fish though...

That sucks. Hope you get it back before the next big challenge. it's even suckier to have no mojo during those!

message 1375: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments If needed, I can also cover MC over 50, but not for at least a week.

I'm hoping it'll come back for the next big challenge which is definitely in its planning stages.

Being used at the moment to read an 67 page contract which is melting my brain.

I switched out my flower cover and finished off President Snow.

I was brave / foolish and spun an Urban Legend

Rolling Calf
1 500 to 650
2 Page number in ascending order
3 Char is undead/ghost
4 Black cover (>50%)
5 -ing word in title

Whilst the page number looks annoying, the one I switched out is over 500pages, and should be finished tomorrow, so I'm feeling OK ish about it! :D

that'll chase anyone's mojo off!

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I have an -ing lined up! also works for ascending page #s

message 1382: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I took black cover. :)

message 1383: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Ok, so those of you that are familiar with Edward Rutherford (Cat?), you know how there isn't one Mc for a book, but a series of MCs in different time periods?

Can we use an MC for one of those periods for an MC task? Because I've just hit on a spy 😁

message 1384: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
I'd say that we can use a MC from the time period (which is the size of a small book anyway!)

message 1385: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Awesome! 😁

message 1386: by Melindam (last edited Mar 08, 2024 02:18AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Just had a giggle this morning. Out of curiosity, I searched my kindle for "martini" and had only 1 hit.
It turns up as part of a Latin quote in the upcoming BOM, The Dark Queens. 🤭

Can it still be used (the task does not specify the meaning, though with James Bond it's a kind of given?)?

message 1387: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
tee hee random Latin martini! assuming none of us stumble onto a more liquid version prior to then, don't see why not!

In other news, I finished a FISH in title with a 50+ MC :)

message 1388: by Melindam (last edited Mar 08, 2024 04:34AM) (new)

I will only finish after 15 March, so will put it in with a comment to boot it if needed. .

I guess not much chance of their sipping martinis over at the Salisbury plains in the shadow of Stonehenge, or.... ? 🤭

Melindam | 8375 comments I am struggling a bit with Hidden Figures, not b/c it is badly written or not interesting, but something else always catches my attention.

Plus, I bought the kindle version as it was like 3.00 USD, but by the time I get to read, home from work in the evenings, I am soooo tired that I just fall asleep. I fear that unless I get the audiobook, it may loose me ....

SIGH.

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy, I also found another intriguing bio on our mutual non-friend, Chaz D. 😜

Charles Dickens and the Great Theatre of the World

message 1396: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Oh no, hope it picks up a little for you.

I've been there! Though recently more the other way around! Terrible narrator making me regret my life choices and almost switched to a Kindle version to finish. It's amazing how a narrator can make or break a book!

So true!!

I'll try to push myself over the w/e to get further with the kindle edition and if it doesn't work, I'll get the audio. Hubby gave me an amazon voucher for women's day (managed to train him over the years to forget about hot-house roses that just die in a few days or even potted plants 😅) and currently it's about 9-ish USD.

message 1399: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments The day hubby actually brings me a present of any description, I'll faint from the shock! 😆 (yes, that includes Christmas. I generally have to buy, and now daughter has moved out, wrap my own prezzies 🙄)
