OK! Coraline by Neil Gaiman that's black text only on cover, right? if so, I'll read it for this and UNO (30k words, so it works)

ETA: doesn't work for the page count task and I'm not sure I can actually see any buttons on the cover, but covers the other three....

is IS black text, right?!

message 1306: by Sammy (last edited Feb 25, 2024 08:49AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13036 comments I think so. And it covers tasks 3-5, unless anyone can see any buttons too? (Can't tell what she's holding in her hand)

It seems to be, but I've lowered the brightness on my monitor right now because migraine, so don't take my word for it, lol.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments it is black text
Actually no. It's dark purple

I zoomed it on my second screen to see if that thing in her jacket was a button

Thanks. So far it's not a terrible one, so fingers crossed it stays that way.

Yes to the chocolate please!

Boo no to the migraine

message 1313: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13036 comments Hey, it's not all bad. When I have a migraine, I eat chocolate. Because chocolate gives me migraines, so I figure if I have one anyway, it doesn't matter 😆

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments One of my triggers is the lack of coffee... or caffeine, I should say.

When my nespresso machine broke, I got this crazy impulsive idea to buy one from my usual supermarket. It was cheaper, and I preferred their coffee anyway. The coffee is quite good, but, since my car broke down, is not that easy to go there shopping. Yes, they deliver, but my order only arrives today.

I ran out of coffee on thursday. I didn't think it a big deal, just go outside to a café, right? Well... kinda. Since I totally forgot both cafés nearby close on sunday.

I did had decaff. It worked somehow on the cravings... however... around 5 PM, my brain decided it was tired of waiting for real caffeine and it was time I paid the price for my dumbness. Oh well.. I had coffee outside this morning. And took enough brufen to knock an elephant (not really, just the regular dose), I sure hope things get back to normal soon. Because looking at two computer screens hurts. Heck. Being in a sitting position hurts.

message 1315: by Melindam (last edited Feb 26, 2024 01:41AM) (new)

Melindam | 8392 comments Ouch.... you have my full sympathy, Sonia, though not much help, I know. :)

Normally I only take 1 coffee/day b/c of blood pressure, but when things are really bad, I need caffeine + sugar in the form of the loved/hated coke. (b/c sugar is also bad in such doses... DUH)

message 1316: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Well, the combo worked. And although I'm still a little sore, I no longer feel like have needles in my eyes when looking at screens or trying to think.

I only take 1 a day too for the same reason. And then have decaff when/if I need the "coffee break effect" during the day.

message 1317: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13036 comments I weaned myself off caffeine a little over a year ago (no choice, it was setting off my gallbladder very badly), and decided it wouldn't be very smart to start drinking it again, so I haven't.

It was hell for several weeks at the time though. My head hurt so bad I couldn't see straight. 😫

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Btw, I wanted an excuse to read Loki and His Master (Demon Gods #1) by Rhys Lawless and it features witches.

Also, punching their v-card counts as doing something for the first time, riight? *giggles*

Scratch that, it's a spin-off. Oh well, Killer Heart (Cursed Hearts #1) by Rhys Lawless also has witches.

Aaand, it was such a compelling (though very difficult read) that just could not hold back on it, so I finished this morning and spinning another new monster. :)

Melindam | 8392 comments I have had Tooth and Claw on my TBR for a long time, so I am going to claim tasks 2 and 3, oh and the default edition also works for 4.

message 1334: by Melindam (last edited Feb 28, 2024 02:05AM) (new)

Melindam | 8392 comments Sammy,

I have put your Asperger's Book to the same page count task under a different monster (David McCall), as I have a book that works for both page count and POC tag under Carrionites. 😊

Hidden Figures The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13036 comments No problem 😁

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments This week needs to die a sudden death

Yes, I know is mainly my fault because I procrastinate till I cannot longer do it and then have to put the work in the shortest amount of time possible.

But really, I need to reset.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13036 comments Darn it! I was hoping the book I just started would work for the high school age thing, but he's 12, not 14 (although in the UK kids start high school at 12! lol).

message 1342: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8392 comments Depite asking for recs, I can't say I feel an irresistible urge to read any of those books for possible amusement park task.

I think I'll just leave that one to chance. :)

message 1346: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13036 comments You're on a roll!

I have just finished a re-read, and have several more lined up for the next week or so. I only feel a little guilty about not making a dent in my tbr, as I have read a ton from it already this year 😁

message 1347: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8392 comments I am also doing some rereads now, but will try and knock off 2 or 3 more TBR-books this month. :)

message 1348: by Sonia (last edited Mar 04, 2024 03:55AM) (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments So, I think I'm giving up on Fish Out of Water. It's... not what I want to read now.

And I remembered that my edition of Trust is the first one. And I used to hate the cover. Hence why I switch for every challenge. But the one I have is this one:

Trust (Temptation, #3) by Ella Frank . So I'm using that one for the white cover task.

[Edit] The page count it's my usual range, so, it's easy to get :D Sophie's book was in the range, I replaced mine for hers.

message 1349: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I haz a question. If the book is a author collaboration, do we need to use both authors' initials, or just the main one?

Because when you look at the series page, only one author appears.

I'd say go with that one author only. :)
