Melindam | 8375 comments Willoughby and Marianne have been taught their lesson and sent on their ways.

WE have a Dr Who monster:

JUDOON

1. 100 to 175
2. MC is in law enforcement or equivalent
3. Stars on cover
4. "hospital" in text
5. First book in a series

message 1253: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Obviously I am not commenting on the page count. 🤭

If it defeats us - I can grab a Murderbot novella. 😉

Melindam | 8375 comments I am grabbing MC is law enforcement or equivalent.

Hercule Poirot does count, right?!

message 1258: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments

Also, is that a star?

*angel face*

Curious enough as I was updating my challenge ss today, I was thinking in the lines that those books were perfect for small count tasks, and we had none at the moment

I'm currently reading The 13th Witch that covers law enforcement, 1st in series and hospital in text so we could keep Poirot for another task.

Oh and it's got the star of a pentagram. Shame it's a bit too long at 253 pages

message 1261: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sure, Sophie! :))

why didn't you go straight to T Kingfisher's Paladin books?!

message 1268: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
I remember having a battle to find a rodent when that task came up before.

message 1271: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Yaay, Cat. I found daredevil turn up only once on my kindle, in a book I recently read.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Cat wrote: "why didn't you go straight to T Kingfisher's Paladin books?!"

Because I don't have those? lol.

I highly recommend them! not least for the white rats on the covers :)

message 1275: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I'll add them to my "look out for in audible sales" list. They could come in handy, lol!

message 1276: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Which reminded me that I haven't read anything by Kingfisher yet.

Which book of theirs would U suggest for starters?

message 1277: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I prefer their Paladin books to the horror ones, so I'd start there. They are a series, best started with #1 Paladin's Grace. They are set in the same world as Swordheart (wherein a sword speaks) and the Clocktaur Wars (a duology), but there's no direct link, belong worldbuilding between the three sets.

A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking is all sorts of fun (we did it as a BOM), and Minor Mage has an unusual familiar (armadillo) - these two are childrens

If you like Poe, then What Moves the Dead is an interesting take on The Fall of the House of Usher.

message 1278: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments So many animals

I do have a fish in a glass of water with handcuffs on the side, if we need one of those, lemme know

message 1279: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments No horror or Poe, thank you. :))

I will check the others out, but Defensive Baking sounds right up my alley. :)

message 1280: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
Defensive Baking is excellent!

message 1281: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I think we need an update on restaurant rocks and use cover and title/series instead of text

That oughta be fun

message 1282: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I just bought 3 extra credits -all totally Sammy's fault ;) - so I'll go and buy defensive baking, which actually has been on my Audible TBR it seems.

If I'm not blaming Jenny, I'm probably blaming Sammy!

ok ok, often it's self-inflicted harm too!

message 1284: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments What did I do this time? 😆

message 1285: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments mentioned audible sales list, it's enough for a weakling like me ;)

message 1286: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Teehee! 😁

message 1287: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments Should we need another 500-650 pager before the end of the month, I'll be starting one later today 😁

message 1288: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Haven't been able to start on my 650+ book yet. I'll be some time finishing, if you're OK with that.

message 1289: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments We don't mind. Low-pressure challenge, remember 😉

message 1290: by Melindam (new)

On that note, The Last Continent has finally arrived from my library so will be starting that after finishing another black text on cover book.

The Overseers have decided to pay us a visit.

350-400
tagged "lovecraftian" (at least 10 times)
Number in title
MC lives in an apartment
Read a book from: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

message 1292: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments I'm currently reading something where the MC lives in an apartment

message 1293: by Sammy (last edited Feb 23, 2024 04:18AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments In fact I wouldn't be averse to re-reading 14 after I'm done with my current and the next-up books. (will cover all tasks)

(might even squeeze it in in between, because I love the narrator, and not as keen on the next-up one, lol)

message 1294: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments And that's the Overseers dealt with. spinning another bad romance...

David McCall (Fear)

1 350 to 450
2 MC high school age (14 to 18)
3 character goes to amusement park
4 character is stalked
5 one word title

message 1295: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments In the meantime I have introduced hubby and son to the joy of both Murderbot and the Bobiverse.

2 more converts. 😁

message 1296: by Melindam (last edited Feb 24, 2024 05:28AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Great job, Sammy. Seems it is MB month. 🥰

Last Friday I recommended Murderbot to a former Polish colleague of mine. She hadn't heard of It before.

She's currently listening to Book 5 ... 🤭

message 1297: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Talking of Bobiverse, is there a character in Book 1 that would fit a Skip or 8 Card?

Those are the 2 blue covers for our March UNO hands. :)

message 1298: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13023 comments There's an Elmer, I believe, and probably more. Should be lots of character letters to choose from.
