Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments My current book can take care of the first 2. not too far off finishing it 😊

message 1153: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments I also found an animal title book for Hannibal, which is very short, so I can scratch that one off today as well.

Sorry my reading has slowed to a snail pace at the moment. Really hoping I can pick it up again soon - especially since I have 4hrs approx left for a book due back at the library tomorrow.

message 1155: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I have Atticus on my list to read after Ambrosius. So, double consonant for me :D

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments

Can the flames count as a "red item"? LOL

Also, Bryce spends some time packing up his house all alone...

(yeah, yeah, I'm stretching things here)

message 1157: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments I think "time alone" can be your interpretation, so him packing alone is OK. :)

message 1158: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments No worries Sophie. Hope for your sake you get your mojo back soon, but we're all quite happy for this to be a laid-back challenge, so no need to worry about taking a bit longer over a particular book for this one :)

message 1159: by Melindam (last edited Feb 09, 2024 06:33AM) (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Supporting what Sammy says!

I am currently riding a strong TBR-wave, but may fall off shortly, who knows. :)

I am happy for all of us taking all the time they need. 😊

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments Just finished Interesting Times, which works great for animal name character. 😁

And my next book works for classic and movie! 😁

Just spun - it's tricky to choose which wheel now there are more than 5! I've gone for having 5 different types on the go but another bad romance was v tempting.

Jersey Devil

500 to 650
scream in text
Author initials in PINE BARRENS
LEEDS in title
MPG Humor

message 1162: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments I've just started a 500 pager that also covers scream 😁

message 1163: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments I took LEEDS in title :)

I realised that I've got a soul-suck in Battle Ground, so I've grabbed that one

Shift mine out of scream in that case.

And yay for the soul-suck!

In a surprise turn of events, a friend has just invited me to country2country at the O2 for the Sunday night after chat about going months ago in wheels.

If any of the others of you want to go, we can meet up while there.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments Depends on when they schedule my surgery (finally getting my feet fixed after 30 years of pain!). If it's after then, I may well see about coming down for a day or two. Haven't been since pre-covid!

I won't know for sure until late Feb, as apparently I'll get the appointment about 2-3 weeks before the op.

Once that starts, I won't be able to walk for the better part of 6 months, but I do really hope it'll be worth it! 😁

message 1170: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Not sure whether to have my fingers crossed you get the appointment through soon so you are on the path to recovery sooner, or that it happens after that weekend so I can see you.

message 1171: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments You and me both 😆

message 1172: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments The dementor has been chased away. Let's eat some chocolate!

We have LEOFRIC (Sorcerer to the Crown)

1. 100-150
2. Tagged "fantasy-of-manners" (2 or more times)
3. There is an animal sidekick or familar
4. Solid color cover (>85%)
5. "serpentine" in text

message 1173: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
At least the solid colour cover works for Uno time!

message 1174: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments My next tiny books have 167 and 178 pages. So not fair!!!

Lemme check one of my to go fuzzies.

message 1175: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments I'm currently on a solid red At Home A Short History of Private Life by Bill Bryson :)

AND it has 'serpentine' in the text! Score! 😁

message 1176: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments I moved it from the MPG humour, because those are easy to come by :)

message 1177: by Melindam (last edited Feb 12, 2024 05:18AM) (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments I'll be able to cover fantasy of manners, but I haven't claimed it yet, in case someone else finds a book that could fit. I guess I'll be some time finishing off my 500+ book. :)

message 1178: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I'm stalling so hard on one of my books. it's off the TBR, and I suspect that if I can get to 20% it'll grab me, but so far.... nope.

so I'm going to hold off on picking up another book for a bit, whilst I grit my teeth and plow on through!

message 1179: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments So... you know how you all are always in the prowl for ideas?

My word to spell this week is INITIALS... yep. 6 completed words mean 18 freaking Is.

Oh, and the bonus is author that uses initials.

message 1180: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
What mad challenge are you doing? That's worse than our normal standard.

message 1181: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments It's a wheelathon inspired challenge from the MM romance group.

Each round is only ONE week. It only goes for 6 weeks, I think. And we can only use MC's as characters. Each work has a different prompt that every team member has to read once in order to get extra points. All books need to be MM. Oh, and there's only 6 teams total. So. Yeah. Inspired but a tad different.

Crazy words available under the spoiler tag

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
what, no "Coffee table - features abuse of innocent furniture item" ?!

I'm glad we moved away from Wheel rounds being 1 week

message 1183: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I think we only did that the one time.

Anywoo... my only issue is with side characters not counting. Otherwise, it doesn't bother me much.

message 1184: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13025 comments George & Martha's relationship is over, so now we can try to fix:

John Willoughby and Marianne Dashwood (Sense and Sensibility)

1 500 to 650
2 published under a pseudonym
3 MC has at least 3 siblings
4 character is a cheater (your interpretation)
5 GREED (letters in any order) found in title

message 1185: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
The Silurians have returned to their home planet so now it's time to manage the intensely problematic Humbert Humbert

650+
relationship with large age gap
author's first and last initial are the same letter
MC in a relationship under false pretenses
white cover

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
The page number curse seems to have refound us - either a chunkster (during uno when long isn't actually better) or almost too short.

message 1187: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments True. It came back to haunt us. 😅

message 1188: by Melindam (last edited Feb 15, 2024 02:21AM) (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments For 650+ I have a book. Just received an Audiobook ARC from Netgalley. I won't be quick about it, but I can do. :)

the default edition is 671 pages.

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
I've got the GREED in title covered :)

message 1190: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Well, I wanted an excuse to re-read Reinhold. Since he's over 200 years old, and Chase is in his 30s I think, that qualifies as age gap, right?

If not, Constantine is over 400 and Miles is also in his 30s.

LOL

message 1191: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Both qualify I should think. :D

message 1192: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Oh and I can get the animal sidekick task since Rosemary goes with Jack and Lawson everywhere, and is the reason Lawson gets to save 2 baby tasmanian devils from a bush fire. (I finished the book yesterday, so double win)

message 1193: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Yaay! :)

message 1194: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Okay, claimed both age gap, and page between 100-150 tasks. Will take care of the later today.

message 1195: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments Hannibal Lecter was cleaned up by MRS DANVERS

1. 100 to 175
2. MC cleans something
3. Fire on the cover
4. Proper noun in title
5. Book has a catchy first line (your interpretation)

message 1196: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8383 comments LOL for page-curse

message 1197: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Of course we get fire on cover once I use Reinhold for the age gap. Meh.

Oh wait. It's Atticus that has fire, Rein has a blue dragon.
