You mean like the one I'm currently reading?

The MC on the cover also has 11 siblings, so, I also have #4

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments Behold my psychic powers! I didn't even need to check your currently reading. 😆

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments I'd save those for when Uno starts in a few days, lol! In fact, you have a beautiful green 8 there we could use 😁

message 1005: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Isn't it claimed yet?

I guess I can find another U book if I really want.

message 1006: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments I've got the other greens covered, but 8 is still up for grabs.

message 1007: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments (I can read for it if you don't want to save them, I have options for all the unclaimed colours, lol)

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood
is that a woman wearing white on the cover?

if not, it works for the kowabunga page count

message 1009: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Nah, I'm good.

There are other members on the team. Our word is Fabulous this week, so, after seeing so many Us claimed, I'll probably should focus on the As and Ls anyway. LOL.

message 1010: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments Looks white to me!

Also lol @ kowabunga 😂

message 1011: by Melindam (new)

message 1018: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Rolling Calf sent off, can I ask someone to take over the responsibility and do a new spin? :)

Thank you.

message 1019: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10123 comments Mod
not Mel..... do you really want to risk me? - no!

Sonia, if you're about still - go for it :)

otherwise I'll wait an hour and then spin for us - which should motivate someone to rescue us from that nightmare!

message 1020: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I have no idea how to spin? LOL

message 1021: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments OK... found out how... here goes nothing!

message 1022: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments So... we got Drop Bear

500 to 650
Read a book set in Australia
Read a book with a surprise twist (your interpretation)
Read a book with a carnivore on the cover (make sure it's not an omnivore!)
Read a book with author initials found in VEGEMITE.

message 1023: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Well this one is not that bad... I was in the mood for a red dirt heart re-read... we can use #1 for tree on cover and #2 for both Australia and surprise twist.

Because Travis interview was pretty much a being deported conclusion and then one of the ranch hands managed to change the officials' minds.

Also, my current reading is by Taylor Rylan, so, I can also knock out the VEGEMITE option.

And I feel a bit like Sammy planning all the tasks... somebody stop me!!!!

also: you are cycling through coffee mug images at a rate of knots!

message 1025: by Sonia (new)

message 1026: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Thanks Sonia, for spinning.

Had to go to a meeting just at the worst moment... how annoying.🤭

message 1028: by Melindam (last edited Jan 23, 2024 02:24AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I have been reading/listening to King Hereafter should we need a 800+ book (David Rintoul is sooo good narrating it), and don't want to commit to any 500 pagers before I finish that.

Parallelly, I will finally tackle Lisbon: War in the Shadows of the City of Light, 1939-45 and afterwards Norse Mythology for the MPG Mythology task, unless someone beats me to that task -- feel free! :) Otherwise, I will get there eventually.

message 1029: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments Dang it! My current book is 654 pages! 😂

I need to read a dragon book soon, so can take that carnivore on cover one :)

message 1031: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Well.. I refuse to do a monster all by myself, so I won't say I'll read

*giggles*

plus it's #2 in the series, the first one has a wolf on the cover but it's on the 400 pages range.

LOL

Sylar is gone. Instead Kilgrave has come to call.

350 to 450
MC can change thoughts/actions through magic, mind control or psychic powers
Purple cover
Author initials (all) in KILGRAVE
Character has "jess" in name

Cat - I'm reading The Call of the Wild by Jack London so might end up booting your carnivore depending on who finishes first.

That's fine, I guess.

I strongly do NOT recommend Iron Flame for anyone hoping for anything other than ridiculous angst (friendship and relationship), ridiculous pining and kissing and ridiculous (postponed) sex scenes....
ETA: forgot, you also need to be braced for even more super specialness from the heroine.

The best dragon has vanished from the book so far too...

which of us is finally going to find a Steampunk they want to read?!
I feel like people aren't writing steampunk anymore...

message 1036: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Even when book 1 was chosen as BOM, based on the cover blurb, I decided to avoid this series.

It is clearly not for me, so I am glad for the confirmation. :)

Sorry it gives you such trouble, Cat.

Melindam | 8375 comments If you like "romantasy" with political intrigue, nice world-building, slow-burn romance and devoid of smut, I can recommend Troubled Waters or Mystic and Rider by Sharon Shinn.

I could grab The Subtle Knife. It has been on my physical bookshelf for a loooong time. (I just keep forgetting what exactly happened in Book 1...)

But will only do so after I tackled Lisbon, Norse Mythology and King Hereafter.

If you don't mind waiting for it...

message 1039: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments If (and that's a big IF) I stumble accross a mm steampunk book, that actually has it as MPG I might read it. LOL

You can't say things like devoid of smut without half a dozen of trigger warnings... it's just not right.

There's no rush on the steampunk!
and IIRC, The Subtle Knife starts off with Will, not Lyra, so we catch up with events from Northern Lights in-book.

I was planning to have a search for steampunk because I've enjoyed the bits I've read in the past but my brain is trying to process too many things.

Bleurgh on Iron Flame - I had thought about reading it because the world has some interesting bits, but not sure I can deal with YA/MA angst and ridiculousness.

ETA I say this having read bits of S J Maas, the first iron flame and recent From Blood and Ash, all of which have a lot of people giving them rave reviews.

message 1044: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments I can do steampunk, but may be a couple of weeks...

I have a few to choose from, Expedition to the Mountains of the Moon being a very strong contender. That series is just glorious, so I have no idea why the heck I wait so long between books!

I've put something in for steampunk, which means we have 5 tasks unclaimed!

Author initials in VEGEMITE
MC can change thoughts/actions through magic, mind control or psychic powers
Purple cover
Author initials (all) in KILGRAVE
Character has "jess" in name

message 1046: by Melindam (last edited Jan 27, 2024 08:54AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Maybe it's pushing it a bit, but one of the MCs in King Hereafter is kind of psychic (he can see the future and the past) and while people know that what he says comes to pass, some of them are influenced to try and avoid them. Not everyone and not Macbeth, but still??

Are we OK with it?

I slot the book for the task, but if you say no, I'll just delete it afterwards.

Monster 101 is on the new page!
The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1) by Kady Cross was better than anticipated.

200 to 299
Book 3 in a series
Reptile on cover (turtles, snakes, lizards, alligators and crocodiles)
Features a detective from before 1960's
Tagged FF (at least 10 times)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13022 comments Awesome. Reading a 216 page book atm.

I'm also reading The Windsor Knot, which features the late queen as she solves a murder. The book is set in 2016, but it is mentioned in the book that she's been solving crimes throughout her reign. Too stretchy, or can we count her?
