Melindam | 8375 comments I checked my kindle and found that Aunt Bessie's X-Ray is free on kindle, so against my better judgement I downloaded it. :D

Will check if it has "exterminate" in text.

Also, I got A Three Dog Problem (Her Majesty the Queen Investigates, #2) by S.J. Bennett as a present from a friend yesterday, but will only be able to start it after wheel, so I will keep the "dog on cover" slot free.

We are 1 short, I think. :)

Sammy, you defeated Cyberman."

I did, then got us some daleks instead, lol.

Melindam | 8375 comments Finished The Hound of the Baskervilles. #

I could have sworn I have read it, but I did not remember a single thing about it, apart from big dog/Devon moors.

Getting older... sigh

message 809: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Found "exterminate" in a short book Sweep with Me (Dramatized Adaptation) Innkeeper Chronicles, Book 4.5 by Ilona Andrews , so I will listen to it today to do away with Daleks. :)

message 810: by Melindam (last edited Dec 14, 2023 01:55AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Done away with Daleks and spun an Asian monster

KABANDHA:

2. MPG Mythology
3. Torso on cover
4. MC has a brother
5. Tree(s) on cover

Unclaimed tasks

in one easy place as a reminder:

*Seal or dog on cover
*Read a book with a ecological message/ theme (your interpretation)
100-150 pages
Author initials (all) in TORCHWOOD
* 350 to 450 pages
* MPG Mythology
* Torso on cover

*the first two and last three are friends, so books that cover seal+ecological or 350-400+MPG+torso for the win!

I've a a couple more that I need to focus on for Wheel, then I might have more time for hunting down specifics for this :)

message 814: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I'm away from 5 minutes from now until saturday early eve. after I finish my current books I can also see if I have anything that fits. During wheel it has pretty much been "read a book and see if it fits here".

message 815: by Melindam (last edited Dec 14, 2023 04:16AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I can take on the "dog on cover" and see if it may work for task ecological message, but only after Wheel. :)

message 816: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I'm not looking to re-read either of these any time soon, but if anyone is looking for a good ecological themed book, The Swarm was fantastic and Termination Shock was also extremely good.

message 817: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments The Swarm is one of hubby's favourite book, but right now I don't think I am up to tackle these type of books. :)

But obviously I can still see the title and totally appreciate the sentiment. ♡

Melindam | 8375 comments Just found another post on this which I could watch, lol. Thank you for the prompt, Sophie.

How many times have I watched it?

Only once, of course. ;)

No problem ladies! Can't keep anything that good to myself.

You were being responsible for your team obviously Mel! When wheels finishes you have time to watch again.

message 825: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I just claimed the hat, as I need the same for another challenge!

Now, maybe just watch the above video one more time while I wait to see if anyone has any more books for our team 😂

message 826: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sophie, I have put your Secret Santa book under J.R. as I've just finished A Christmas Carrol, so we can chase away the Baskerville hound. :)

Title has 5 or more words
Set in Wales, Scotland, or N Ireland
Blue cover (>50%)
Author initials (all) in VICTORIAN

message 829: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I am wondering if it could pass for an "ecological message" that in the book the characters are planning to set up a beach bakery and will ask customers to bring their own cups to reduce water usage for washing up and also the use of plastic cups to "save the planet".

Or is it too thin?

message 830: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10122 comments Mod
I'm good with that! :D

Melindam | 8375 comments I have created a 2023 "Top of the Books" over at Perks and would love it if you could drop by some time (January is also fine!) and share your Top 5 or Top 10 books of the year.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

No rush or pressure, but it would be lovely to see your lists some time. :)

message 834: by Melindam (last edited Dec 27, 2023 01:31AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I am reading A Christmas to Remember, which is a 2-in-1 book, containing 2 books also published on their own.

How do we feel about using them for 2 tasks under 2 separate monsters? 1 would work for MC has big family, the other is set in Scotland (not the whole book, but over 50%).

message 835: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Happy Holidays, fellow monster-hunters. ♡

message 836: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
I'd be happy with separating them, but let's see if Cat and Sammy have an opinion.

Belated happy holidays to you all!

message 837: by Sophie, The other one (new)

will go see if any of my books fit.

message 844: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I can read a book from the list for Shelob, though probably won't be done with it for a couple of weeks. Striking out on the great lakes task though... 😢

Cat (cat_uk) | 10122 comments Mod
I'm giving the undead tag one a stern look, wishing it'd go away!

Great Lakes - at some point I can get to a Harry Dresden, but no guarantees when!

So, unclaimed tasks are:

White Walker - Tagged "undead" (5 or more times) - Sophie (might be couple of weeks)
Mondego - "ND" together in author name - Sammy
Shelob - Book from list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3... (series sub ok) - Sammy (in a couple of weeks) or Sophie

Hodag - set in the Great Lake Region of the US and Canada - Chicago is an easy option
Hodag - HOAX in title

message 846: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments My reading got superslow as I was travelling with family in Germany. Hope to get back to speed over the w/e and next week. :)

message 847: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I recently read the last of my zombie books, and only "want" to read another of that undead vampire queen series if I need a U for a team challenge, lol!

I can grab "ND"... with a Dumas I have waiting in the wings.

message 848: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I checked my next Sookie stackhouse. "Unread", yes, "Undead", no 😂

I've finally managed to get my hands on Feed which I've been wanting to read for a while, so it might take me a couple of weeks, but I'll get that cleared.

ETA I can work my way to The Call of the Wild in time for the list book if Sammy doesn't get there first.

message 850: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I quite enjoyed that one. Read it for MRR. Surprising amount of food for a post-apocalypse book 😂
