Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I also rather loved Little Dorrit!

Honestly, my least favourite was A Tale of Two cities, and I still gave that 3 (and a half) stars. And I was probably not in the right mood for it at the time, so rating may yet change 😁

Melindam | 8375 comments Question: I am reading The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett.

Can Queen Elizabeth II be considered as a kind of last representative of the generation of "traditional rulers" or something of that sort?

As in Smaug task - "book is about the last of something"

I wouldn't say so, no. :(
though nice try!

Melindam | 8375 comments Yeah, a bit sweaty, but it was worth a question. ;)

For the last of something - I have just finished Starter Villian. I'd say Charlie is the last of his mother's family or that Dobrev is the last supervillian.

Also parts of it take place by lake Como (or Garda - my memory is terrible) so could also cover that task.

message 610: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Hmmm, managed to cover the male author, but that's as far as my current books will go. :(

Mel, I moved your System Collapse from the page count into "light source on cover", as I could cover eel and page count :)

annoyingly I'm reading a book set in Rep of Ireland, not NI. grrrrrr!

i've another book on the go that fits nothing, but once I get that off my slate I'll hunt down something useful!

message 617: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sure, Cat. :) Feel free to (re)move any books of mine that aren't finished yet.

message 618: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10122 comments Mod
actually, change of reading plans. I was reading a horror to finish SRC, but it was sloooooooow going. so I've switched to Ring Shout, which covers the novella and afrofuturism tag tasks.
Clark was born in US, so don't think counts as African diaspora though?

I'm currently listening to a brown book.

message 622: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Does "System Collapse" work for feet on cover? (sorry, on the App again)

message 623: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments If we're happy with said feet being in boots, definitely! :)

It sure as hell distracted me. Even made me think longingly of maths. Never thought I'd see the day. 😅

I've just shuffled stuff as I have finished something that covers 3 of the Sasquatch tasks.

message 631: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Oh joy, I remembered a Rosamunde Pilcher U-book that is set in Scotland, so I'll grab that spot. :)

message 632: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Awesome! I do also have plenty of Scotland books, but currently I'm in Middle Earth, and I have about 8 other books already lined up after that before I can get to anything else, lol.

message 633: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments U is going on taking precedence for me in the next round (I just KNEW we'd get the dreaded vuvu-word, lol), but I am heartily sick of it. :D

message 634: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sasquatch has been banished, Cactus Cat popped up.

1. 100 to 175
2. MC gets drunk/tipsy
3. A cat is important to the plot
4. Setting is somewhere dry (your interpretation)
5. Two words in title start with the same letter

message 635: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Just finished a book that works for 1 & 5

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy wrote: "Awesome! I do also have plenty of Scotland books, but currently I'm in Middle Earth, and I have about 8 other books already lined up after that before I can get to anything else, lol."

How do you find the book, Sammy? And the narrator?

message 640: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Loving it! And the narrator too. while my first choice would have been Andy Serkis, this one does a really great job.

A lot of the content is already in the dvd extras, but I'm geek enough not to care, lol.

I thought the narrator was fantastic and with you on the don't-mind-the-repetition stuff. 🥰

Bad timing! We were all too efficient with it.

message 644: by Melindam (last edited Nov 17, 2023 04:40AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy, you did read The Unadulterated Cat for Wheel, right? So it has the required word count.

Update:

Just checked Country's sheet, so I have my answer. :)

Which means I am grabbing it to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. ;)

message 645: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Yep.

message 646: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Sammy,

what was the word count? I cannot find it on arbookfind uk/us and your spreadsheet doesn't say either. :(

Thanks.

message 647: by Sammy (last edited Nov 18, 2023 07:19AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I'm not sure I found a wordcount. At the time there weren't any MPGs needing one? (makes a change for Pratchett... It always drives me nuts that people shelve them as children's books, lol!)

My issue was 128 pages, I believe, with only about half a dozen illustrations. I know there are longer page versions with a load more illustrations which were released later, I think.

message 648: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
There's nothing I can see that would need a word count for wheels.

message 649: by Melindam (last edited Nov 18, 2023 07:24AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments It is this blasted new page setting (hatehatehate it!!), I cannot decide where the MPG list stops. 😖

message 650: by Melindam (last edited Nov 18, 2023 07:25AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments When I open the page, it does not list any questionable genres (ending with British Lit), but when I extend by clicking on the "more" button (still on the "main page" so to speak) it lists "comics", that's why I got confused, sorry.
