Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments My fist wheel book will be Skyward (Skyward, #1) by Brandon Sanderson , which doesn't seem to fit anywhere either, lol.

(typically, a 500-pager!)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Finally going to actually read The Bounty Hunter Code From the Files of Boba Fett by Daniel Wallace (which I added to my "currently reading" 5 and 1/2 years ago, then promptly misplaced. Have recently found it again!), which has a green cover and a possibility of amputees, being Star Wars and all... If it does I'll move it to there.

(it also has more than one author should that come up on the just for fun wheel again! lol)

Melindam | 8375 comments Great find, Sammy. :)

message 454: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments 2 books I am planning will be rereads (The Dragon Reborn is one of them for the 651+task), but 1 -Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries- will be new, so it may fit a task or other.

message 455: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Just finished Thornyhold.

Could "harking" instead of "hark" in text be accepted?

I have this nice little sentence: ... the dog itself was harking back"

message 456: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10122 comments Mod
I found an actual hark and stuck it in - hadn't seen your message, sorry Mel.

And new spin:

Frankenstein’s Monster
1 175-225
2 Possessive in title
3 Author publishes using a pseudonym (can also use real name - initials are not a pseudonym)
4 Read a book from either list: 1. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1... (no series sub) or 2. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2... (can series sub)
5 MC runs away from a place or person

message 457: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I can probably read from one of the lists, but it'll be a few days/a week or so, as I have a few others to get through first, so if someone beats me to it, no worries 😊

message 458: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments That's OK, Cat. I am glad that task was claimed. :)

message 459: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I finally started on The Dragon Reborn and making good progress.

For Frankenstein, I claimed task 2 as another book I have started for Wheel, will work for it.

message 460: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments You beat me to the children's MPG Cat. just got a copy of Coraline, which would work. Holler if you're only reading to fill the task 😉

message 461: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10122 comments Mod
I'm reading it to fill a task on SRC. You'll be done with Coraline before I'm done with Tuesday, so do boot me out!

message 462: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments If I get to it before you, sure. Be a couple of days though so I can use it for the next turf round 😉

I have claimed Author initials in WHALE.

Can Dublin be considered as "coastal setting"?

Cat (cat_uk) | 10122 comments Mod
uhhhhh.... some of the outlying suburbs are coastal, but the main city not so much, so I guess my answer is "it depends" ?

Melindam | 8375 comments Cat wrote: "uhhhhh.... some of the outlying suburbs are coastal, but the main city not so much, so I guess my answer is "it depends" ?"

Yeah, will see. I have not started the book yet, so I don't know which part(s) of Dublin are mentioned.

message 468: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Sophie, I just finished an 800+ book. Are you close to finishing Kushiel, or do you want me to swap it out and see if another comes up for you in the meantime?

message 469: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
Swap it out! Kushiel's slow going

message 470: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments No problem (I'm probably the only one that flies through those books in a couple of days apiece, lol!)

message 474: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments amusingly, the 2 books I've read today for the Asian wheel are Asian books (Japanese). what are the chances of that?

we can thank the current turf wars lists for that, lol.

Changed my mind about 4 times on which list book I was going to re-read, but have settled on Solaris 😁

message 479: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5692 comments Mod
You are all still progressing these monsters much faster than my contributions!

message 480: by Melindam (last edited Oct 13, 2023 04:07AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments We are not in a hurry - luckily, my previous books worked both for wheel and monsters.

And I decided to go on rereading the Wheel of Time series and they can fit lots of stuff.
After From Lukov with Love, I need a palate cleanser. That book really drove me up the wall.

Also, I removed my book from authors initials in WHALE, if you happen to have sth that fits.

message 481: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Nope, no hurry at all!

But there is something very satisfying about your current book being perfect for a task without having to go hunting, lol.

message 482: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10122 comments Mod
We've disposed of a LOT of monsters already - 40 completed in a couple of months!

As far as fitting new tasks - My next after I finish Last First Snow will probably by Whisper Network, for the W title and the marimba in text!

message 483: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Not bad considering there are only 4 of us! 😁

message 488: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Goody! :)

message 489: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Could this cover get away with "night sky"? Or not really?

The Trouble With Witches (Shadowvale, #1) by Kristen Painter

message 490: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments Maybe? I think a case could be made that the blue behind the gate is meant to be the night sky..?

message 491: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10122 comments Mod
Oooof. Very close. Even for me!
But there's certainly dark sky, so I can see that as night

message 492: by Melindam (last edited Oct 19, 2023 01:42AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments I removed my book from the slot someone is kidnapped (Lamia), so if anyone has an option for that, please go for it.

I can still cover "child (under age 18) is an important part of the plot", but will only finish a book for it next week, so once again, go for it, if you have anything that may work. :)

message 493: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments I just finished one with a 16-y-o MC, so can use that, then hopefully yours will fit something by the time you get around to it.

Got nothing for kidnap yet, but maybe my next book?

message 494: by Melindam (last edited Oct 19, 2023 04:50AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Go for it, Sammy. I am sure, my book will work for sth else.

BTW, it is set in Vienna, in case you need one for wheels. 😉

message 495: by Sammy (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10122 comments Mod
I've got one that covers page count and WHALE author.

How do we feel about putting helicopter into service as bird again?

A Small, Stubborn Town Life, death and defiance in Ukraine – ‘The mesmerising story of how in the face of a mighty army, ordinary people can say "No."' Mail on Sunday by Andrew Harding

ETA: and it turns out there is a person known as Ghost in the book..... we good with using a living person with that nickname for that task?

sadly not coastal setting though

message 499: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13020 comments lmao! Cat's wheel curse strikes again.

I'm (obviously) happy with the helicopter thing. And I like the stretchiness of using Ghost. as the task doesn't say 'A ghost', just 'ghost', it totally works, I'd say.

message 500: by Melindam (last edited Oct 21, 2023 07:19AM) (new)

Melindam | 8375 comments Super happy with the helicopter as bird thingy and Ghost. :)
