I've searched as much as possible for a book with spider legs on the cover!! I may have nightmares! Probably gonna have to re-read Along Came a Spider. HA!

message 152: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments I may have to resort to same, lol.

message 153: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2191 comments I found a cozy mystery with a halloween theme. Not as long, but.
If only Children of Time gave a hint as to the characters on the cover, instead of that lovely planet and spaceship, I would read the third book.

Just FYI, I didn't say the whole spider couldn't be on the cover. As long as the legs are there....

It's the spider itself that is tramatizing me! LOL

There are plenty of books with spiders - I just hate those things!!

LOL, but they are such a lovely shade of black or brown, and some even white...

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments Whose turn was it to pick? I just finished my books, and can check us in. Maybe we can get at least part of another monster done by the end of the month :)

message 159: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2191 comments Didn't I choose last time? Go for it. Pick a good one!

message 160: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments ok, will have a looksee...

message 161: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments Went for MUTOs. Fingers crossed it's not a horrible one, lol.

message 162: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2191 comments Could be a Thanksgiving massacre. If it only attacks in the States, then say a kind word for me and Angie.

message 163: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments lol, will do. 😁

Two means they could attack in multiple places at one time ; )

MUTOs
description

The MUTOs are prehistoric parasites. They survived by attacking and killing members of Godzilla's species and laying their eggs in the carcasses. A male & female MUTO that emerged from spores left in carcasses found each other in San Francisco. They built a nest together but Godzilla killed them to stop them from reproducing. The military destroyed the nest.

To capture the MUTOs, you will need 8 chains (there are 2 of them).

Complete the following tasks:
MUTO (male)
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books with the letters MUTO in the title
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a man on the cover
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books set in California
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a military character
MUTO (female)
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books where someone tries to get pregnant or reproduce
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a woman on the cover
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books starting with a letter in MUTO (you must decide as a team which letter to use- you must all use the same letter)
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a prehistoric animal (they do not have to be the same animal)

message 166: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments I vote we go for T for the female leg 1 😉

message 167: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2191 comments That works. "The" starts a lot of books.

message 168: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments that's what I was thinking (and I'm 2/3 of the way through The Violin Conspiracy 😁)

message 169: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3584 comments Mod
T works for me too!

message 170: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2191 comments Sammy, isn't it time for you to read Groom of the Tyrannosaur Queen by Daniel M. Bensen ? Plenty of prehistoric animals in that one!!!!!!

message 171: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments ahahaha! If I get through what I want to get through and still have time I'll finally bite, lol.

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7472 comments Mod
Start thinking about whether or not your team wants to finish any of the monsters after the competition is over. The competitive challenge officially ends at the end of the month. Any team that wants to continue on a self-paced basis may. Please let me know what you decide.

message 173: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments I'm happy either way, though would definitely not feel the pressure to rush through them! 😁

message 174: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2191 comments So we are trying to finish the Muto books before the end of the month, yes?

I am also fine with either stopping there or continuing at a leisurely pace.
So definitive in my decision making today!

Angie, you get to decide or flip a coin, and it looks like we will go along with your's or fate's choice.

message 175: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments Never thought I would say this, but that dinosaur book isn't long enough... 😂

Trying to only read 10-pointers for the rest of the month. Have 2 more coming up and possibly time for one more after that, but having trouble finding a 900+ pager with prehistoric animals in!

message 176: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments so... A LOT of searching later. I have found out that giant turtles are prehistoric, according to Encyclopedia Brittanica, and giant turtles show up in A Dance with Dragons.

I have spent far longer looking for something for that task than I would have liked, but I shall plow through and add that to the list of stuff to read before the end of the month, lol.

message 177: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2191 comments Well I feel like a slacker!
I am not doing only 900+ page books. Sorry!!!!

Glad you found one.

message 178: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments you don't have to, lol.

message 179: by Sammy (last edited Nov 26, 2023 10:33AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments although I'm not sure I'll get to the california book too. Maybe I can squeeze in a shorty, lol.

message 180: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3584 comments Mod
I am also good with either option....since I have to make the deciding choice, it is going to be a coin flip. But, I have to find one! LOL Oh, I'll do an online one!

message 181: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3584 comments Mod
Heads = Continue
Tails = End

It was 3 Tails in a row! Lol
Unless one of you want to overrule.

message 182: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2191 comments Never dispute a coin flip!

Besides, I have a feeling the three of us will team up in future.

message 183: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments Works for me.

We make a good team. We're all insane dedicated...

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments I'd forgotten how good A Dance with Dragons actually is... Hadn't read it since I read it the minute the paperback released 😂

Just a shame I'll never know the rest of the story... *sigh*

message 186: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments P.S. Angie, you are conspicious by your absence...

Whatever do you mean? There are over 500 reviews of the next book in the series, and it has a rating of 4.40 stars. So, how is it that you haven't read it yet?

teehee

I have not gotten that far in the series yet. One of these days...

message 188: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments It's one of those series that gets better as it goes, IMO.

Anyone who thinks that Martin is going to bother to actually write the final two books however is delusional. 😂

message 195: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments There is a phrase we use a lot in the UK that perfectly sums up the situation...

"Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!" 😂😂😂

message 196: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2191 comments So, if we are targets, does that mean we are on the same team? Pretty please?

message 197: by Donna, Curator of Challenge Terrors (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7472 comments Mod
I can't guarantee that. I will divide the two teams using your stats. I haven't sorted them out yet. Odds are that two of you will be on the same team since there are only 2 teams.

message 198: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3812 comments The three us us & Tru (another big reader) against all comers? Could be highly entertaining.

And possibly bloody. Snowman guts everywhere...

😂

I have quite a few big readers playing. Kira, Aoife, Anastasia, Catsalive. Sally & Shan A aren't much slower than Angie.
