For me it would be The City of the Living by Nicola Lagioia - an Italian In Cold Blood

Lasts until the end of the year.
Lasts until the end of the year.

Bleak, isn't it? Just thinking about it makes me appreciative of the reading time I do have. :-)

If not, then I'll go with War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy.
I'm going for length here.

I don't think even total desperation could bring me to pick that up again, the style was just so irritating, although keep meaning to go back to it to find out what happened at the end.

In that case I might go for Dorothy Richardson's Pilgrimage cycle starting with Pointed Roofs, Backwater, Honeycomb, 13 separate pieces overall and Richardson regarded each as a chapter rather than a separate novel.

Ha, interesting! Ok, my new idea is to pick a book that would benefit from multiple re-reads - like something where you go back and re-read it to pick up on all the things you missed the first time, or to see a mystery unfold where you already know what will happen. I can't think of what book that might be. Maybe Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. Mandel, but dang it's a short book.
