Kayla Dando | 6 comments I’m trying to remember the name of a book I read in junior high. This was around 2008-2009. I got the book from the school library. It must have been for Y/A. It seemed old. I vaguely remember the plot. It was centered around a girl that was rescued at sea. A woman was caring for her. There were mythical creatures like brownies and selkies. Maybe took place in England, Scotland, or Ireland. A lot of nature and magic. The front cover was an illustration of the girl standing on a cliff overlooking the ocean. With the sun rays shining through the clouds. I think the girl was blonde and maybe wearing a white dress. It was a really beautiful and ethereal cover. I enjoyed the book back then and I’ve been wanting to read it again. I apologize for the vague description and lack of details. My memory is terrible.

Kayla Dando | 6 comments Rainbowheart No it wasn’t a childrens book. The book cover was different as well.

Rainbowheart | 28691 comments This sounds super familiar to me!

I don't think Teetoncey or Nightbirds on Nantucket are right. I couldn't find matching covers, and anyway neither has the heavy mythological aspect.

Where did the girl come from originally? Was she from a shipwreck? Was she herself a mermaid or part mermaid? Was she a teenager when she was rescued or a younger child?

Kayla Dando | 6 comments Rainbowheart Oh gosh I wish I could remember more. But my memory is too fuzzy. I think she was either rescued from a shipwreck or was found floating in the water. She was a teenager at the time I’m pretty sure. I think there was another girl in the book, too. This other girl was a selkie if I remember correctly. description a bit. She had black hair and her features looked painted on like a doll. I think she made friends with the main (blonde) girl.

Daughter of the Sea by Berlie Doherty

Not really a cliff, though.

Kayla Dando | 6 comments Rainbowheart No the book cover isn’t the same. Also, in this book the girl is found as a baby.

Sea Child by Carolyn Sloan

It does have a blonde girl in a dress standing near a cliff.

Kayla Dando | 6 comments Rainbowheart No the story isn’t quite right. The book didn’t center around selkies themselves. They were mentioned along with other creatures. Thank you for the suggestions though :)
