Lee & Low Books (leeandlowbooks) | 6 comments Two editions of Montgomery and the Case of the Golden Key are present on Goodreads, when there should only be one edition (the hardcover).

David Raz (davidraz) | 12977 comments You are the one who changed it from hardcover to ebook, mind you, against policy, and you were the one who set the ISBN for that ebook/hardcover. What exactly are you requesting? Can we have the full story?
I reverted the ebook back to a hardcover for the time being.

Hi David,

Yes, we did that as an alternate solution before discovering that they could be merged. Sincerest apologies for the confusion and for not knowing that was against policy.

David Raz (davidraz) | 12977 comments You still didn't explain the ISBN. It seems valid, where does it come from?

Hi David,

The ISBN is indeed valid. 9781643795188 is the ebook ISBN and 9781643795171 is the hardcover ISBN. Originally, this title had two editions on Goodreads, both of which were listed as hardcover editions but one without an ISBN. We were unsure why there was another one listed, as there is only one hardcover edition.

In an effort to fix this (because we originally did not know editions could be merged), we switched the second hardcover edition to the ebook edition with the ebook's ISBN, so that folks wouldn't get confused by there being 2 hardcover editions.

After learning we could instead merge the editions, we attempted to revert the ebook edition back to its original labelling as a hardcover so our query on the Librarians group discussion page would make more sense. We were unable to do this, so we decided to go ahead with making the request here in hopes of only making the hardcover edition appear here on Goodreads.

It would be fine to have the other edition be the ebook edition (our original solution), if that's what you think is best instead of deleting it.

Apologies again for the confusion and for any errors that were made in this process.

David Raz (davidraz) | 12977 comments The correct solution is to undo your entire change and then merge the editions, but superlibrarians cannot remove ISBN, only staff can do that. I sent them a request.

David Raz (davidraz) | 12977 comments Support have removed the ISBN and I have merged the redundant hardcover edition.
To avoid this mess, please don't change edition formats. We are here to help if you need any assistance.
