► UNSOLVED: One specific book > Middle Grade Fantasy, coming of age. Boy goes to a relative's house on a large hill and learns plant magic. I remember the name as Green Book?, but not any famous one. Read around 2018. Spoilers ahead.

Elena | 3 comments - The plant magic originated from the book (green book?) and was passed down through generations.
- His relative is an uncle or grandfather or something,
- the house that the main character moves into is old and a family home that he has never went to before. it is situated on a large hill above the town nearby where the MC goes to school.
- He is bullied by the kids in the town and at one point lashes out with his plant magic. the kids don't bother him after that.
- the ending is a plot twist that the family magic of the boy is actually an ancient evil power being used and manipulated by the uncle or whoever to grow an evil plant or something, and the MC defeats the evil dude by giving up his magic
- the MC often feels broken and hopeless, but then he finds power and belonging in his magic, and it is large character growth to give it up

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments Could it be on this Plant Magic list? It's only a short list, but it might be worth a look. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Just to clarify, does the title of your book contain the word "Green" - or is "Green" only in the title of the magic book used by the boy?

Is the boy an orphan? If yes, who were his parents and what happened to them?

Elena | 3 comments I am not totally sure on those things and that's why I left them out earlier. I don't really remember if Green is in the name of the actual book, but I feel like it is. On the subject of his parents, I don't remember much. I just remember that he is completely separated from them throughout the whole book and that the beginning scene is him traveling without them to the house. The more I think on if he's an orphan or not, the more I am conflicted about it. He is very angsty and detached (for a middle grade protagonist), so I think that it is most likely that he is an orphan.
