OH MY GOODNESS YES This is the book!!! Thank you so much! I cannot wait to read this again.
I do not remember the characters name but i'll just call her MarySue as thats the one thing I remember about her. She got special access to this military base program where she met this boy that ends up being the love interest in the end.
I'm unsure how it got to this point but she ends up getting Superpowers. It's gradual at first but if I remember correctly, she ends up passing out(?) quite a few times and every time she does her powers get stronger when she comes back to.
The military base training thing that she's at had actually set everything up and it was a ploy to trap her I believe?
This is the part where it starts feeling like a fever dream:
- She escapes the military base after finding something out (?) and feeling betrayed. She even leaves her love interest behind.
- There was a point during their "training montage" with other teens their age where I think some of them started dying/getting killed.
- Aliens are real and they are going to come and destroy Earth but she has some sort of connection to them and that's how she got powers?
- Her super-powers are insanely strong at this point and she "swims from X location (i think San Fran? Or somewhere in Maine.) ALLLLLL the way to a place in I think Alabama or Florida. By herself. Completely underwater almost the entire time... and it only takes her like 8(?) hours to do so.
- She is virtually indestructible.
- She DOES end up getting hurt at some point and she lives on the run for a while. I believe there was a time-skip where she ends up finding her love interest in this warehouse place and they stay with eachother for a while until the military catches up with her and finds her again.
[large space in my brain that does not remember these next parts as the story goes so incredibly fast it's jarring]
- she comes into contact with the 'aliens' and gets pulled into the spaceship that is shaped like an egg. While in the spaceship she says the contents of it "feels like trying to swim through nougat".
Any help would be insanely appreciated with this. It's been scratching at my brain for months now and I'd love to re-read this catastrophe again.
