Pamela (bibliohound) | 128 comments After a couple of distractions, I’ve started reading this and am enjoying it. The first few pages are really awkward with a tense and strained meeting between the two main characters - Madeleine and Dinah - that really excited my curiosity.

I love Lehmann’s elegant writing but I already dislike both the women and husband Rickie - they are all so selfish.

She does awkward really well doesn't she.

I have made a start now, but not far into it as yet.


Pamela (bibliohound) | 128 comments I was a bit disappointed in this one in the end. I still loved Lehmann’s writing, she captures thoughts and actions with precision and uses really unusual phrases that work perfectly. But I just couldn’t get past how self-absorbed these characters were, totally committed to making themselves as miserable as possible. And what did these women see in sulky man baby Rickie? The final straw for me was when (view spoiler)
