Amy Hayes | 11 comments This was a YA fiction book from the 1980s or 1990s and set in that time as well. It centered around a boy between 10 and 14 who had to get over a mountain. He was running from or to something and was not prepared (no warm clothing, etc). One part of the book references him melting snow to get drinking water. Please help!

I guess My Side of the Mountain is way too early.

Holly (hollylovesbooks) | 759 comments If it isn't My Side of the Mountain or Hatchet (two very commonly read MG survival stories!) then maybe check this list https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7...

That would be the right time frame.

Not Hatchet MSOF the mountain. It was not a well known book. I had an old paperback copy. Thanks for trying though :)

Amy, are you still looking for this or did you find it?

Amy Hayes | 11 comments Still looking. I think I the main characters name was David. And he had siblings with him I think

Kelly (khek) | 270 comments Sounds a little like Climb or Die, by Edward Myers. But the characters are a sister and brother named Danielle and Jake.

Amy Hayes | 11 comments I checked but no. Thank you for trying 😀

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments Slightly left field here, but could it be I Am David by Anne Holm? It isn't set in the 80s/90s but WWII but otherwise could fit.

Amy Hayes | 11 comments It's not-but thank you!

Amy, what's the location (country, region, well-known city mentioned)?

What happens at the start of the book? Is he with his family or friends (who are they)?

Have you tried searching on Worldcat.org? It's helpful for finding old children's books. For example:
