Hi, all.

It's time to think about a group read for September. Hard to believe we're heading towards Fall, but here we are and what would you like? A mystery? A thriller? Psychological suspense? Police procedural? Something old? Something new? Something ... oh, wait. Save that for Spring.

Anyway, it's your choice.

The usual disclaimers apply:
1. do NOT nominate your own book
2. if your nomination tops the poll you will lead the discussion. Obviously you shouldn't nominate a book if you don't wish to participate.
3. also, please check the group's bookshelf to make sure we haven't read your nomination in the last couple of years.

You have until next August 10 to nominate, and then I'll set up a poll.

Have fun!

Christine Mathieu | 583 comments I'm always rooting for something old.
How about "Landscape of Lies" by Peter Watson or "The Little Girl who lives down the Lane" by Laird Koenig?
They don't write crime novels like that anymore...

Timmy | 1 comments DeadFall by Brad Thor. Action and Suspense!

Hi, Christine.

Please narrow down to the one you'd really like to see picked. (One book per nominator.)

Thanks,
Randy

David Crumm | 3 comments This group is very broad with all the main genres within mystery/crime fiction all together here. But I would suggest something fresh: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Laura Elizabeth sets this novel on the real-life Daufuskie Island, which is the island made famous by Pat Conroy and that's packed with complex American history. In real life, Laura is a community activist on Daufuskie who has worked to save one of the island's historic gems.
So it's not only a cozy mystery with a fascinating historical setting but she's a real-deal community leader there who has tried in real life to make the community better there.
(Note: She calls the island a different name in the novel, as Pat Conroy did himself. She did that because she didn't want potential visitors thinking that people actually are getting killed on her island.)
So that's my nomination.

Lila | 1 comments A novel I have recently read that was amazing is Murder at Morrington Hall by Clara McKenna. The book is definitely a cozy mystery filled with historical information and a little bit of romance here and there. Murder at Morrington Hall

"Spring, 1905: Free-spirited like the Thoroughbreds she rides across the Kentucky countryside, Stella takes adventure by the reins when she’s asked to attend a mysterious wedding in rural England. But once she arrives at the lush Morrington Hall estate, her cold and ambitious father confesses that he won’t only give away his best racehorses as gifts—he has also arranged to give away his daughter as bride to the Earl of Atherly’s financially strapped son . . .

Stella refuses to be sold off like a prized pony. Yet despite a rough start, there’s something intriguing about her groom-to-be, the roguish Viscount “Lyndy” Lyndhurst. The unlikely pair could actually be on the right track with each other . . . until they find the vicar who was to marry them dead in the library.

With culture clashes mounting between families, a scandalous murder case hangs over Morrington Hall. Now, Stella and Lyndy must go from future spouses to amateur sleuths as they team up to search for the truth—and prevent an unbridled criminal from destroying their new life together right out of the gate . . ."
Anyway, this is my nomination.

Sounds interesting, but I'm showing that not publishing until like mid-September.

Robert Jackson (rjplus) | 3 comments How about “The Prenup” by Arianne Richmonde? A thought provoking insight to relationships, prenuptial agreements and Hollywood!

message 10: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 2551 comments would a book like Snake Agent or The Last Policeman qualify? They're a mix of Scifi and mystery.

Which would you like added to the poll, CB?

Suzy (goodreadscomsuzy_hillard) | 702 comments I'll nominate A Man With One of Those Faces by Caimh McDonnell. Getting good reviews and looks fun.

I think the Last Policeman as it doesn't really have aliens or demons in it. It's just a cop in the times before a asteroid slams into the earth and destroys it trying to continue on with his job and solve a murder.

message 14: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 583 comments Landscape of Lies (Peter Watson).

message 15: by Celeste (new)

Celeste (pinkbear) | 16 comments What about Are You Sleeping by Kathleen Barber

It’s a twisty psychological thriller about a mega-hit podcast that reopens a murder case and threatens to unravel the carefully constructed life of the victim’s daughter.

message 16: by Kelli (new)

Kelli Stokes | 1 comments In My Dreams I Hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead, a dark and twisty whodunnit. Plus, I’m a sucker for great titles!

message 17: by Kymm (new)

Kymm | 639 comments I nominate "The Death Mask Murders" A Reggie da Costa Mystery by Laraine Stephens. When a death mask is found it leads to more murder!

message 18: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 2698 comments I nominate The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

message 19: by Dawn (new)

Dawn I second or third Last Policeman!

Hi, everyone.

The poll is up and ready for you at,
https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

One note: David, since ALL IS NOW LOST doesn't come out in paperback until Sept. 12, I chose not to include it. Please keep it in mind for future group reads.
