Vale | 15 comments I would recommend Fahrenheit 451, not too long and just entertaining enough to read through.

The Handmaid's tale is good too, the first sentence on the first page was crazyyyy. These aren't fast reads but still really good.

Kaitie Reads (kaitiereads) | 18 comments - The Secret Garden (it's technically a children's book but one of my favourites still)
- The Great Gatsby
- 1984
- To Kill a Mockingbird
- Lord of the Flies

I find anything before the 20th century hard to read and frustrating

Christina | 29 comments I also agree with The Secret Garden, The Great Gatsby, and How to Kill a Mockingbird. Another you might consider are the Lord of the Rings series and the Hobbit. I really enjoyed A Clockwork Orange and Don Quixote - but I also know those two aren’t really in a lot of peoples wheelhouses. I heard The Color Purple is also considered a classic, but I’m not 100% sure if it is or not. Little Women was also such a great story, but the writing may be a bit more like the slower classics you said you didn’t want.
