Reader | 1 comments I cannot remember the name of the series, however the main premise involved Magic utilizing insects/bugs in a futuristic deserty world, but also includes many other planets, I don't remember but I believe the main character in the first novel is a female, and that her planet has an Islamic theme but there are human visitors from other worlds including one with a solidly Christian theme as well...I read the series sometime between 2013 to 2014 and I am 89% certain it was a new series when I read it. The main plot involved control of the bugs (maybe spelled Bugz, or maybe called beetles?) being power...it's not Dune or anything like that at all, it may have been a trilogy or a quintet I cannot remember honestly....please help!

God's War (book 1) of the Bel Dame Apocrypha series by Kameron Hurley looks promising.

Google Books preview: https://books.google.com/books?id=lzl...
There are different cover images.

Some Goodreads reviewers say:
- "Some people–‘magicians’–have the ability to manipulate the bugs and their energy. Some of the technology is hybrid-organic, and the bugs play a role in powering vehicles, lighting rooms and in healing. Magicians are the only men granted an exception to serving at the war front."
- "The war is between two cultures on a colonised planet (I assume from Earth thousands of years ago, but who knows). The dominant religion on the planet, which is relatively isolationist draws heavily on Islamic-like cultures where faith and religion are highly important. Add to that a society that effectively runs on bugs, (vehicles, lighting, electricity, communications etc, all seem to run on harnessing the power of insects)..."
