Hi Kris, this looks like a children's book, whereas my mum would have been reading a book for adults - probably either a thriller or non-fiction. So I don't think this is the one, but thanks for the suggestion.To clarify, my mother had read the book herself and mentioned the plot to me because she thought it was interesting - it wasn't a childrens' book that she was reading to me - if that helps.

I believe she said it was a novel, but could have been based on a true story, or nonfiction if my memory is faulty. The major event was that somebody (can't remember if male or female) got trapped in an alligator nest and had to stay there for several days, as the alligator didn't know they were there, and had to find a way to escape without alerting the alligators to their presence.
My mother now says she doesn't remember the book, but might recognise the title/author if someone suggested it... Hoping it might ring a bell with somebody, but have very few details as it's only my memory of her description all those years ago!
